Just to be clear here for everyone...if you're getting this service for free your svc advisor is either retarded or crooked, one or the other. Nowhere in the manual does it say this service is available free....nowhere. The quote above is the only mention, and it could be construed as "free" in the same way that your Svc A, Svc B, or any other service would be "free." IE, nowhere does it even allude to it being free, it's just listed as a required service.

Luckily my dealer only charged me $110 or something so I didnt push hard on it. But really, its a ridiculous request, it's clearly not free.

Only the LSD needs the early change.

Thanks, I knew my dealer is only trying to make $$. Do you know when the non-LSD needs a flush.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I have a couple questions for our esteemed gurus

My car needs it's LSD changed when my beast wakes from hibernation.
Yes, my car has a "real" LSD I paid for the option.

Question: what are the part numbers for the new plugs/bolts and is the Castrol oil the only one they should use?

I just want to order the correct parts from the dealer before the service.
I do not want the old plugs used; I mentioned to a service manager in conversation that my car will need it's LSD oil change and asked him if the plugs are stocked and he said, "no we just reuse the old ones"
I'm not going to that dealer for service and was considering using the only Amg Performance Studio dealer in my neck of the woods--I'm hoping they'll be receptive to my very modest demands

Any help from the experts?

EDIT:
I think I found out my own answers by using Google, I tried search on here too, but to no avail.
Is this correct (I knew about the oil, but is this the proper plug too?)

One 500 ml. bottle of Castrol SAF-XJ (MB Part. No. A 001 989 52 03 10)
One differential drain/fill plug (MB Part. No. A 001 990 23 17)

You will need 3 bottles of gear lube as the diff takes 1.2L, maybe a little bit more. I reused the existing drain and fill plugs as I see no reason to change them but it can't hurt.

Roswell

My service manual only seems to recommend it for the AMG Performance Package at 60000k or 2 years after the 3000k change. Not sure what they recommend for the open diff. It would not hurt to change it at 60000k with Fuchs Titan EG 5010 D.

Thanks Mort.
I would love to do this service myself, but I don't have access to a lift.
I try to bring my cars to the stealers as least as possible since they usually could care less about doing a good job.

I used a floor jack and 4 chassis stands to get the car level. It is amazing what you can get done off the floor. It is generally harder to do and definitely takes a little more time but is quite satisfying. Saving > $104 an hour in labour helps make it worth while and that is before income and sales tax. That would cost me ~ $155 after taxes for labour per hour.

I know what you mean about the dealer and I take mine in only for warranty or an operation I cannot do myself because of tool requirements or experience. I do maintain a good working relationship with everyone at the dealership for that reason. Around here we only have one dealer in the whole province so if it works it is OK if not you are SOL. Think twice act once...LOL

Hope you have better luck at the AMG Performance Studio dealer. They will surely take your requests more seriously and be better informed and trained on the AMG product.

I did the service myself. The fluid is a Castrol number and is common to the GTR. Got mine on line from San Diego NIssan shop. The fluiid volume is overstated in the owners manual by about 3 pints as I recall. Hoist the beast and place on good jack stands. Everything clean clean clean. I transferred the oil into a common squeeze bottle. I do not recall an Al plug. Reused both plugs. No problem. Do not buy this bulk. I do not trust lubsters or the personnel drawing it out. The lube is $70 qt at your friendly Nissan dealer, about half that at the online source. It takes about 1 1/2 qts as I recall. If anyone needs specifics, advise

Correction. I reviewed the owners manual The diff amount is correct as stated (1- 1/3 qt.) There is no call out for the PP LSD Castrol.

Those plugs are designed to be reused. Just like your engine oil plug.

Good to know, did 1.5 qts come out before refilling. Always willing to try this. Also part number for castrol fluid - same fluid for LSD and non-LSD?

It's been 2 years but I remember cast iron plugs. I know one was a pipe thread (tapered threads). The fluid that came out was over one quart and silvery. I kept it in case any noise /dealer hassle. No problem. Go to detail PN and pics on AMG 63 discussion " diff service 2000 miles" or similar pg 1 or 2.
