Dyno in 4th is done on the 5-speed automatic (1:1) and 5th should be done on the 7-speed automatic (1:1).

We agree, and have said as much about both trannys in the past (4th with a WA5A, 5th with a 7G) 1:1 is by far the best/most accurate way to test on the dyno.

On a stock C63 you cannot dyno in 5th because of the speed limiter. You are forced to dyno in 4th. The top of 5th(1:1) gear is 186mph and none of the limiters will allow you to reach that point. The stock limiter is 155, option 251 Delimitation of top speed is 174mph, therefore unless you have a tune that totally eliminates the top speed you cannot complete a 5th gear dyno pull. Good luck!

Keith is 100% correct. 5th is still the way it should be done but most can't until after a tune.

I'm really sorry and I'm not trying to prove anyone wrong. Actually I'm a fan of MHP but I think there is a company that does "TCU upgrades for all models" (quote from the company site ) I think that includes 63 series since they offer an ECU tune as well.

As someone said already "Never hurts to be an informed consumer" so that's what I'm trying to be.

PS Guys at MHP Please don't get me wrong. I'm just sharing some info.

Keith, I completely understand why stock C63s are being dynoed in 4th gear, but what I do not understand is why do other "tuners" still continue to dyno in 4th gear. All tuners should be able to delimit the car to 186 mph or higher. And since 5th gear is the only 1:1 gear, which yields the most accurate results, then all tuners should really dyno in 5th gear This would at least make the comparisons much easier.

MB Forever,
I believe most continue to dyno in 4th because that keeps the comparisons fair for those that can't dyno in 5th. In order for me to compare my stock dyno to any new one I have to run 4th because the stock dyno was in 4th. Not trying to muddy the waters just thinking from my own point of view. Just thinking out loud.
5th gear is a true 1:1 but it takes much longer which puts more strain on the engine and runs the dyno's to a much greater speed. Just my 2 cents worth.
If we could all dyno in 5th then I'm sure we would.

Sounds like you're asking for their permission or forgiveness.
Are they holding a family member hostage?

Do you do this in S-Mode just switch it to 4th gear and step on it till the car switches gears to 5th or in M-mode and just change gear/let off at the limiter?

You're fine brother. I'm not going to comment reg. other vendors anymore, but I will state again that we're the only ones doing 63 TCUs (that work).

Thanks

FYI, a 6.2L motor with 40mm intake valves/33mm exhaust valves and heads that flow over 400cfm intake/300cfm exhaust at .500" lift with the stock cam specs (we cam doctored them) needs 1 7/8" primaries and a full 3" exhaust for optimal performance. That's why as you'll note, we make more power and torque across the board. Anyone that says otherwise (about larger diameter tubing) has obviously never fabricated an exhaust system.

Thanks
Andy
