Repaint problems, white !
Repaint problems, white !
I had a smaller accident with my c63 so I turned it in to my local mercedes dealer to have it repainted on one side, the problem is that they cant find the exact same color because it seems to be many different shades of the white color, although they have the colorcode!??? I got it back and the side didn't match the hood of the car, it was a little more yellow, so now they have sent it back to paint and I really hope they get it right this time, dont think the insurancecompany will agree to repaint the whole car so.... anyone had or heard of this problem before?
Would really appreciate some help, feeling a little desperate :/

paint tends to fade over time especially under the sun. so unless your car is garaged during the day, it'll fade.
another thing you can shoot for is diminished value, especially if your car is new. hopefully it wasn't your fault.
it may be difficult to get the insurance company to agree to repainting the whole car, but if it's new, i say you have a chance.

White is a notoriously difficult colour to match. But since this is being done by the dealership, the onus really falls upon them to get it right, no? I would not be satisfied until they get it right. Afterall, your car is still very new, and the paint on the other body panels haven't even had time to degrade very much as yet.
Good luck.
Good luck.
No it sure havent had time to fade, tree month of swedish sunlight (its weak
Im only afraid that MB will say that they have done all they can, and the insurance company wont pay for a whole repaint of the car. Sure didnt think white would be difficult to repaint but I guess I have to learn the hard way as alway :/

even though they have the paint or color code, the problem lies with the factory, when they mix the paint it could be thicker or vary from mix to mix, sometimes it is difficult to match, but it can be done.
Don't know if this helps or not, but over in the w204 forum under thread titled "FrankW's Arctic White Obsession" on the 4th page they start talking about color codes, apparently it's 650 for the arctic white.
Thats great, looking at all the white US cars makes me want my car so bad, White is still very rare here in Sweden so I hope to stand out with it.
Some peaople think I am crazy for choosing it
On the downside i think the color could be somewhat brighter, 650 is alost "cream" white, IMO it would look better if it was truly bright snow like white.

I had the same problem with my BMW.
I took it to the dealer, they mixed the paint according to the factory color code. And after the paint job, the fender and the door (that they painted) were definitely darker. My insurance company disagreed to re-paint, however I didn't blame them, I was pissed off at the dealer. So what I did was - I went to a very good body shop (recommended by friends) and their paint was custom made for me. There is some kind of equipment that mixes the paint exactly to the same color of a part (usually it is the lid of the gas tank, since it is easy to take off) that you provide. I gave them the actual fender that was damaged and they used it to get the the exact color.
So, my suggestion: Try to find a very good body shop with a paint mixer and maybe you can convince the insurance company that the dealer's quality of repair was not sufficient for you and you need to have it redone.
PS This happened in Moscow, Russia
Good luck with repairs

You can't just paint panels on a car using just the paint code of the vehicle. The same paint code can have several different shades (lots of variables to this). A good body shop should have a paint scanner, to scan the actual paint on the vehicle itself, to get a closer match of the paint and custom mixing that formula. Most known paint companies\suppliers will have a scanner available to their body shops (PPG, Dupont, Standox..etc).
Also, with white and most metallics and lighter colored vehicles, you can't just paint the new panel, you have to blend into the adjacent panels to have a good flow of paint. (ie. you replace the driver side front door, you have to paint the front door and blend into the driver side fender, and rear door).
You should see if they did that, especially at a MB dealership.
