No front CF piece doesn't look right.... I remember upwards of $2k
Any before/after dynos with a massive fan, I know they won't show much or at all, but how else do you justify such an expensive intake piece?

Looks nice and the runner design might be able to flow more air, but I still think the real limiting section of our intake is the inlet tubes ahead of the filters. They seem to be too small in size for a 6.2L motor. I also agree that it looks like it is missing something without the front piece. $3K is too much unless it nets serious HP & TQ. I'll stick with my Carbinio unit for now.
That $3K could buy you Kleemann headers and high flow cats that will yield much better power gains.

3k wow that's alot of money for a intake. Is carbon fiber becoming more expensive then gold?
What is Renntech? A big rip off

The engine sound does change a little.
As for price, retail is $2995. It may not be worth it to some of you, but it is to me. It just feels good all through the power band. By the way, I have headers and an ECU tune.
If anyone wants to drive it just PM me.

take it this is not for the 55K motor, but rather the 63's...
I think RennTech is way overpriced and they think they are the best, bar none; I simply don't agree with either philosophy and other modded cars have shown that in fact it's not the case.

RENNtech's prices actually are not that far off from other tunes considering what is involved with developing a product.
As for the price on the airbox, the carbino intake cost $1995 and provide zero gain as all it is in a carbon copy of the factory box.
This RENNtech air box has gone through over 5 revisions and has been a product in development for over a year now. Why so long? simply because RENNtech does not make any performance products just for aesthetics. Trust me when I say, I've been waiting for over 7 months for this airbax to be released.
Considering that you actually get a gain of roughly 10-15hp, I personally think that its a bargain at the extra $1000 you would pay over the carbino.

And the best part is that people dont understand that a used box is likely an older generation. The 63 and the 600 and 65 boxes are always being upgraded to better designs with better flow. I know a new box is coming for the 600 and 65 to get another 10-15 hp. The box Jon has for sale is the current 63 design and makes real power.
1k extra for 10-15 hp on a NA motor? Thats hardly bad. Just more angry people spouting out false data about RENNtech parts. Its a normal thing for MB world. Thanks for clearing that up!

Just wanted to clear up a couple points about the Carbonio airbox. First off it is not a carbon copy of the factory box, it is in fact noticeably larger than the stock box which is visibly seen by the overhanging sides. Secondly, while the MSRP is $1995 many vendors are offering it for less. I was able to pick mine up brand new for $1500 including shipping.
Also, in regards to power...everyone always claims 10-15hp it seems with airbox/filter mods. I know Carbonio claims this, as does Renntech with their box. But most seem to be in agreement that if there are any gains to be had, it won't be shown on a dyno since their is not sufficient enough airflow.
Also, one could argue these gains are achieved through the filters and NOT the airbox itself. People have claimed in the past that simply removing the charcoal filters has shown an improvement upwards of 20 hp, add high flow filters on top of that and I think that's where most, if any of the gains are coming from. As evident by the following link: https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...e-18-rwhp.html
So in the end, it really does come down to cosmetics for me. If it helps to increase hp then I'll take it. But in either case I wouldn't really call $300/hp a bargain? And for $3k, I would have liked to see a front engine cover.
I don't want to sound like I'm bashing RENNtech or their airbox because I'm not. I do believe they can produce real power for the C63 as evident from their 1/4 mile times. I also really do like this airbox despite the lack of a front engine cover, and haven't ruled it out completely. If it were closer to $2k though, I'd probably wouldn't hesitate to ****** one up.

I'm a fan of CF, but as others have said, looks a bit weird without the front cover.
But congrats on your purchase![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I think the main thing with air filters is it increases responce more than increasing power. I doubt you'll feel any noticable power difference, but responce I reckon you will.
It is a little on the expensive side, but hey, its for a merc, and the top of the range one (for the C class!), so:
1) they can't charge next to nothing or else we'll question the quality of it
2) they need to put alot of effort since the stock one already does so well, so to make it better needs alot of R&D and thats where the money goes!
At least thats my view on it

just got mine!
I just got mine installed today. I haven't had a chance to try it out due to Thursday afternoon LA traffic but will give it a good run this weekend.
Here is the before and after pics and yes I was upset that it did not come with a front cover. I was like..."that's it"..Where is the rest of it"... It does look like it is missing something but I got it got the HP and hope that it really is there.

Agreed.
I got it for the HP gain. I was told 15. Will I see it, feel it, will it show on the Dyno? That all remains to be seen and I will let you know. If it turns out that there is no gain then yes, I will be upset.

I did have one question and I plan to ask the shop but thought I would ask it here too. They took the charcoal filters out but didn't put any in their place. Do I need to replace them with something else or just leave them out altogether?
Thoughts?
Thoughts?

Leave them out, which shop did you go to?
