Finally started having to add oil
Im at about 5500 miles, and through all the previous threads about this car eating a quart of oil once a month for breakfast I had never experienced it. oil level held steady for 5000 right between the dipstick markers. Last week it dipped to the bottom marker and started getting check oil warnings. Don't know what changed, but add one more to the list of C63s that likes to burn oil.

Is everyone using Mobile 1 0W-40?
It says in the manual that you can use 5W-40, but the Mobile 1 bottles all say for use in turbo diesel engines. Has anyone tried switching to this?

If oil selection wasn't complicated enough, the 5w40 Mobil 1 that you find at local auto parts stores, designed for use in turbo diesel (e.g. truck) applications, is not the same 5w40 Mobil 1 "ESP Formula M" that your manual is referring to... that one is somewhat limited availability at present, although some dealers have it (and allegedly charge a pretty penny per quart), as do some MB specialty shops.

My first litre top up was needed at 900 km and I went through almost 6 litres by the time I hit around 7500 km when it seemed to have settled down. In the last 3000 km it has used less than 1/2 of a litre.
Although this engine during breakin seems to have used a bit more than I recall seeing in other vehicles I owned, I think the 6000 -7000 km per litre its down to now is acceptable.
Next (3rd) oil change at around 16,000 km I will remember to get Ams/oil into it. One of the big things I have always liked about Amsoil is its lower volatility and oil consumption compared to Mobil 1.
I also do oil analysis and I look forward to seeing the results with this engine using Mobil 1 compared to Ams/oil, especially since I am still a bit uncomfortable about the new low Zinc SM Mobil 1. Time will tell.

so I got check oil level light twice now...
I just placed an order for 5w-40 today and should hav it soon -
2 questions
1.) Is it ok to wait a few days since I do not hav the oil yet? It does say next re-fueling so Im guessing its not urgent, just getting low
2.) Would it matter if the current oil in there is 0w-40 and I re-fill one quart of 5w-40?

2. don't quote me on this, but I think mixing oils is not too bad as long as both are synthetic, not sure though.

I guess I need an education regarding oil consumption of C63. Is this some sort of inherent design flaw or is there something completely different about this particular engine that causes oil consumption?

From my days on the W211 E AMG Forum
My C63 has used 2 Quarts + in 9000 miles.

Usually burning oil is a result of a leaky, loose engine (leaky valve seals, leaky piston rings).
Have any of our mechanically advanced members here dissected their 6.2L AMG engine to discover if these may be the problems?
Seems unlikely, considering how common this issue apparently is, and how new everyone's engines are. The commonality of the problem is both reassuring and disconcerting at the same time.
