Taking on the Arch nemesis E90/E92 M3

Gents,

I was curious to know if any C63 owners have had any "battles" with a E90/E92 M3 on the road yet. What were the outcomes? Are your cars tuned? Did their cars have any modifications if known? I seen the infamous Gustav video that is been hailed by the fanboys as if it were the 10 Commandments. I know that M3 with M-DCT allegedly had only an exhaust and a tune from Hartage. However I think I recall reading the driver of the C63 botched that run as his car upshifted 2 gears while he was shifting in manual mode (I could be wrong here). I have came across a few M3's in my travel and none would even offer at my C63. Only once did I think I had a customer but he was going south on the NJ Turnpike and I was heading North. I have new Michelin PS2 tires on my car with 265 in the back and I have nothing but GREAT feedback about them. Sure they were costly, but I never have wheel spin anymore under mildly aggressive acceleration in 1st and 2nd gear. Also cornering in my opinion has been improved over the Pirelli's. I also removed my charcoal filter's as posted by VRP and can feel in the top end the car seems to have a little more thrust. I had a run in with a GTO (6.0) once. His car sound very loud and but all i could tell was he had an aftermarket HID kit. From a 2nd gear roll (maybe 35/40 mph don't recall EXACT MPH to be honest) I pulled a head of him by one car length until I shut it down approaching 125 MPH considering I was little nervous about being picked off by some patrolmen. Anyways. Any thoughts?

MThis I know your car is heavily modified. Have you had any luck run ins with a M3 both stock and when you were modded?

I have seen a handful on the road and they are all being driven like a 40 year old women was behind the wheel. Seems like girlie men drive m3s. However, I have seen a couple m5's the these guys actually drive these cars.

It's funny cuz, most M3 owners dont race us. I dont know if they are scared of staying behind or they simply are not into having fun?

Anyways, i've only raced one and it was the 4 door sedan. I think you can imagine the outcome....Pulled like 3 cars in front of him. BTW i think the E92 sedan looks better than the coupe but thats just me

Its funny that all the fanboys point to the Gustav video as like the undeniable proof that a M-DCT will beat a C63 from a roll. Amazing.

I've smoked several E9x gen M3s from a roll and also on the track. Had lots of fun letting one pass me on the track and then pushing him until he messed up and went off into the weeds. I'm modded, but i doubt even a modded M3 short of a supercharger has a chance.

I rased with my C63 a E92 between 180 and 290 km/h. I was pulling from him very easy...

I ran into a red M3 stock last year around this time. last I heard was that the guy who raced me took the back seats out of his red M3 and put racing seat in place of the fronts.....I have yet to see it again though to really tell if the rumors are true.

When I had my C63 I raced a E92 M3 with MT. I barely was able to pull on him. Maybe half a car length. We went from 0-100. I did have a poor start with lots of wheel spin.

Now that I own the M3, I would can definitely say the C63 is quicker down low.

I remember watching the Top Gear episode where Jeremy and Richard were arguing about the C63 and e92 M3. I recall them saying that the C63 was insane when it was on a straight road, but the e92 can easily catch up on curves. so I'm guessing it's hard to say.

I raced a friend's M3 DCT (stock) last weekend w/ my car (tuned + filter+ M mode). We ran like 6 times just to be sure. We started from 2nd gear all the way to 220 km/h. I say from 2nd-3rd gear, its about neck to neck more or less (depends who floored earlier). However from 3-4, the M3 is behind and by 220 km/h about 2-2.5 car lengths behind. I can honestly say that its not easy to shake them off on 2nd & 3rd gear (considering 6.2 vs 4.0). They may lack the torque, but they rev like nuts. I'm looking forward to race an M6 soon and I'm a little worried.

I'm not questioning your story but this just seems a little odd, but I think I see a problem. First off, what type of tune are you running? Majority of all ECU tunes are offering 512-520 bhp. The filters gives you a few more hp, but your better off pulling the charcoal filter out for higher gains. Anyways your motor is providing little more then 100hp and almost 200lbs/ft of torque over the M3 motor. If anything you should be putting a few CL between the M3 in the low gears. What type of tires do you have on the car? Did you go wider in the back? The stock Pirelli's provide no traction under aggressive acceleration in 2nd gear, you will spin them on a stock motor let alone a tuned one. I think your biggest problem though was racing in "Manual Mode" and here is why I say that. I noticed from the W211 AMG boys when they run a car they put there car in Sport mode and paddle shift down to the lowest gear possible. Now obviously you can do this in Manual mode to, however when you shift in manual mode I notice that the shift on the tach seems longer as compared to sport mode. This is because even though the car might "paddle shift" quicker in Manual mode as compared to Sport mode the shift it self doesn't happen mechanically faster when you compare to car shifting off the redline in Sport mode as compared to it shifting off the redline in Manual Mode. When I raced the GTO I did the same procedure, and the car would shift right at redline without me letting off the throttle (even though mechanically I'm sure the ECU cut the throttle). Regardless my argument is you will have better results letting the car shift itself then you shifting. Now its important when your in Sport mode to shift down to the lowest gear or you will be wasting time when you wait for the transmission to kick down in to gear.

Fear not, throw a KLEEMANN K2 in there and be done with it (the M6 that is).

I had an E90 M3. I have a real aversion to not feeling fast, even if I am fast. In fact, I'd rather feel faster than I am. The E90 M3 was the opposite effect. This will make a lot of sense to some, and no sense to others.

When I owned E46 M3 I would always stay away from the AMG's cause I knew they had way more torque and in a straight I would not stand a chance.

I totally agree with you regarding the sedan. I think it looks much better. It is also apparently better balanced and quicker although that is not advertised.

I've been wanting to run a C63 since I bought my M3. If anyone is interested in doing some friendly comparo's, in the Socal area, let me know.

I haven't raced my friend's E92 on public road, but we did on the track.

Once when both of us exited a corner and then we floored our cars, I didn't catch him immediately on a straight, but rather walked his car slowly. At least, C63 doesn't have that much advantage on a straight as what i had expected, from a roll.

btw, his car is a stick. what's the point to get a m-dct e92 m3? seriously.

Which car is faster, your new one or the old one with the supercharger?

well, i think people's taste varies. imo, e90 m3 is the most ugly 3er in bmw 3 history. E92/93 looks wayy better. maybe its just me.

It's not just you, lots of folks don't like the sedan. I'm just not one of them...it's all personal preference. At least we agree on one thing...our current choice of car.

The E46 with the supercharger was faster.
