Question about engine temp.
For some reason I always think the engine is overheating. Sorry for the retarded question...

but i got a quick question if anyone's willing to answer, i just purchased 02 clk430, and also im a new member here, when i drive my temp sits around 80, but when the car is stopped for about ten minutes it goes up there in the 90,and 100 if it really sits for long...is that normal? again sorry for the question, its my first mercedes, im not really familiar with these cars that much, but i sure love it so far..
thanks guys
If that doesn't help, cuz I read through it and it didn't show any numbers, I would advise asking them since they have had the cars for a while

what i noticed though is even though the engine is pretty hot theres no cooling issues even after a hard track day. At the track the engine temperature is very consistant at around 120
simptoms- temp gauge going over the top part of the nr 8 from 80degC till 100-110degC (at very slow driving or waiting with engine on). usually it is a summer issue, no problem over 40-50 km/hr or in the winter or when AC it is on hot/red.
reason- faulty the sensor which turns on the fan/fans in the front of the radiator. quick fix (just to keep you moving safe) -keep open AC fan on at least 2 on warm/hot or cut the wires before the sensor and join them together. the fan will go all the time regardless the engine temp till you'll find a specialised garage to get a new sensor.
It may be necessary here in Vegas to keep the temps low from the start. With this kind of heat, once it's too late, it takes a really good cooling system to recover from 120+ degrees in summer heat.
Even to have the stock one modified wouldn't take much. It's a coil that heats up to a specific temperature and applies pressure to the valve to control the flow of water... This isn't that difficult of a part. I was just hoping that someone may have already figured this one out. http://www.trustmymechanic.com/parts...thermostat.htm
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for supporting the sponsors of this forum with their quality technical parts that make our cars go fast. But $200+ for a thermostat! There's got to be some justice somewhere.
