All tires have to be changed in order not to kill yourself. The Pirelli winters are good on this car.

I second that. Used them last winter and they are great tires. Downsized the width per the recommendations in the C63 Owner's Manual (provides a bit extra bite)

What sizes did people use? 225/40/18 in the front and 235/40/18 for the rear if you use the stock 18" rims? i'm considering getting some 19" rims so my stock rims can be used for snow tires. would the 235 fit on the rear though?

I either drive the GF's TSX or my brother's 04 S4 in the winter when it snows. The S4 with the V8 is a monster in the snow it goes through just about anything with a nice winter tire set-up. I got stuck once last year in the snow with the C63. I had to basically abandon the car in a church parking lot after almost wiping out a few times. Very VERY scary scenario.
Do NOT drive this car with performance tires on in the snow.

There is not much snow (melts a lot) in the city in winter (that's where I usually drive) and most of the winter is wet (because of the melted snow).
Some people in Moscow use studded winter tires, but I'm not a fan of those. I had one set on CLS 500 and by the end of the winter 75% of the studs were gone.

Looks like im going with the blizzak and will get new rims as well.. Im thinking of getting the same size as the standard amg wheel (235/40front and 255/35 rear) so I can switch the rims for summer or winter tires as I like.

I also purchased mine at tire rack. 225/40 18 with 4 wheels. tire are dunlop 3D. works well in deep snow and we get a lot of it over here. Blizzack are very soft but great on ice. but you will probably wear them out in one season. Pirelli great for sport driving, not so great in deep snow. just look at the tread pattern.

I don't have a C63, but I will say that the Blizzak LM25V's are incredible winter tires. I see more snow and ice than probably 99% of the people here and had zero issues with mine last year. Wear isn't really an issue either as I switched to standard set up for the winter, so I can now rotate my wheels.
I also downsized to the 18's that are being discussed, and while they don't fill the wheel well like I'd like, they certainly get the job done when it counts.

2 more to add to the list:
Hakkapeliitta
Vredestein
I had hakkapeliita rsi's on my car and they were amayzing. I am getting the vredestein wintrac extreme for this winter. They are supposed to be great in the snow but also keep great performance.
