Can anybody recommend a good winter tire?
And what is a good size for winter tires on C63?
TIA

How does the C63 handle the snow and do you all change tires for the winter? (I live in New York)...

All tires have to be changed in order not to kill yourself. The Pirelli winters are good on this car.

i would still suggest Bridgestone LM 25 over the Pirelli wintersport series. LM25 is the ultimate winter it is what they used on the GTR's winter nurburgring snow run.

I second that. Used them last winter and they are great tires. Downsized the width per the recommendations in the C63 Owner's Manual (provides a bit extra bite)

What sizes did people use? 225/40/18 in the front and 235/40/18 for the rear if you use the stock 18" rims? i'm considering getting some 19" rims so my stock rims can be used for snow tires. would the 235 fit on the rear though?

I used the exact same factory setup for tire sizes.

I either drive the GF's TSX or my brother's 04 S4 in the winter when it snows. The S4 with the V8 is a monster in the snow it goes through just about anything with a nice winter tire set-up. I got stuck once last year in the snow with the C63. I had to basically abandon the car in a church parking lot after almost wiping out a few times. Very VERY scary scenario. Do NOT drive this car with performance tires on in the snow.

I kept my C63 in the garage last winter but I might need to take it out a little this winter.

Moscow.
There is not much snow (melts a lot) in the city in winter (that's where I usually drive) and most of the winter is wet (because of the melted snow).
Some people in Moscow use studded winter tires, but I'm not a fan of those. I had one set on CLS 500 and by the end of the winter 75% of the studs were gone.

Looks like im going with the blizzak and will get new rims as well.. Im thinking of getting the same size as the standard amg wheel (235/40front and 255/35 rear) so I can switch the rims for summer or winter tires as I like.

so tirerack recommends 225/40/18 as the tire... is it okay to run this all-around?

Thats what I ran last year. Purchased a complete set from tire rack with alloys for about $1200. Car was rock solid in the northeast winter.

I think I have michelins, but Can't remember. Tires are out in the barn.

I also purchased mine at tire rack. 225/40 18 with 4 wheels. tire are dunlop 3D. works well in deep snow and we get a lot of it over here. Blizzack are very soft but great on ice. but you will probably wear them out in one season. Pirelli great for sport driving, not so great in deep snow. just look at the tread pattern.

Would you recommend the Dunlop 3D over the Blizzak LM25?

The dunlop, I Think are less expensive,. They work great. If you don't care about the money go with the blizzack but be advised that it is a soft compound that sticks to ice but will wear out faster especially in the rear. If you want to drive like its summer during winter, go with the pirellis and you could also keep the same size as the summer tires.

The recommended size by MB in the cas cap cover for the winter is 225-40-18

for people who bought 225 or 235's, did it look weird on the stock rear wheels (i think 9.5" width)?

I don't have a C63, but I will say that the Blizzak LM25V's are incredible winter tires. I see more snow and ice than probably 99% of the people here and had zero issues with mine last year. Wear isn't really an issue either as I switched to standard set up for the winter, so I can now rotate my wheels.

I also downsized to the 18's that are being discussed, and while they don't fill the wheel well like I'd like, they certainly get the job done when it counts.

2 more to add to the list:
Hakkapeliitta
Vredestein

I had hakkapeliita rsi's on my car and they were amayzing. I am getting the vredestein wintrac extreme for this winter. They are supposed to be great in the snow but also keep great performance.
