I don't know how trust worthy...but I remember when I bought mine I found that there were I believe there were about maybe 5 states that were illegal to use.

Even with the laser ones (lidar) it will still activate a good radar detector. If you brake as soon as your detector is activated, lidar can't get a reading. My friend is a CHP officer and we tested my friends radar detector

Here's why I think even a $500 radar detector can be cheap. In the past six years I've been ticketed twice and beaten both in Trials by Declaration. So...still zero points. My latest insurance bill came today and I see that I have a $486 good driver discount this year. The cost of my Redline was $350 (a recent Crutchfield sale @ 20% off plus $50 in accessories back from an ongoing Escort summer promotion). Say the average cost of a speeding ticket is about $250. The loss of my good driver discount would be $486 for one year. The first year, assuming the Redline saves me from a ticket I am already ahead about $380. Assuming the loss of my good driver discount over three years, not getting that one ticket will have saved me about $1,350 after subtracting out the cost of the detector. Plus, no points means I can enjoy driving more.

Hey BH do you have one of those companies do the declaration for you? I had spoken to one, but I felt they were kind a shady I ended up paying a real lawyer to help me fight the ticket. Which is next month, thanks for all the info guys I think I will get the redline as well. I can't afford another ticket and it's pretty nerve wrecking staring at my speedo the whole time I am driving. I feel like I am going to get into an accident because I am not watching the road!

Nope, did it myself. One was a stop sign "violation" that I thought was undeserved and very beatable, which I did. The other was a 15-over on the 405 which I beat on several technical and procedural grounds...that ticket took an amazing 18 months to wind its way through the system before I received the verdict. While I feel very comfortable doing this kind of stuff myself a lawyer is much, much better alternative if somewhat costly, particularly when the stakes are high. Good luck!
youre in SoCal as well so i figure it might be helpful at some point

I can tell you that every ticket has individual circumstances and in each case mine would not apply to yours, guaranteed. I just Googled it to refine some of my thinking and give me some additional background but I could already see the approach clearly in each case re. where to attack it but these were not "universal" as such but very specific to my circumstances. If you take a cookie-cutter approach to a TBD there is little likelihood of winning IMO.

Thanks for the info BH, One more question I am looking at the redline and I see it looks like it attaches to the windshield. Is there any way of not having it used this way like sensors in the bumpers?

VA and DC are the only areas in the US that radar detectors are illegal, outside of some federal/military areas. Every other state is 100% legal.

I hang mine off the passenger visor where it is tucked away from thieves and LEO's...IMO that is far better to the windshield location. Buy a hard-wire kit from Escort and run the wire from behind the glovebox up the A-pillar to exit at the visor...leave a little slack to be safe You can do it yourself but I have a stereo shop do it, usually when I am having something done to the audio system.

I have the Escort 9500 X (w/ GPS) loved it. Its now in my Jeep. For my C63 I have the new Escort Redline - Dual Atenas and EXTREME long range detection. Out performs long distant Ka band (the bad one). I also have the Blinder M27 for Laser Jamming. Both my detector and Blinder "goes off", while my Blinder Jams the signal, I quickley slow down and flip the power switch to the Blinder. The cop shoots me again and this time he gets my "lower Speed" display on his gun. Saved me 3x in 6 months. Blinder ONLY works on Laser. We need the jamming because of the "instant on" of the Laser gun.
I wired the Redline up through the header (top of windshield) down through A Pillar and into glove box. Looks professional and WORKS!!

Its illegal in VA to use radar detector devices of any type. There are one or two products out there that are "radar detector detectors" so-to-speak, or in other words, are invisible to police radar detectors.
Does anyone know which ones those are? I am blanking on the names/brands. And secondly, do those really work?

The escort Redline has a magnesium case and Escort claims it is invisble to cops. As to the guy that got picked off at 15 over with Laser....your right, no radar detector protects you from instant on laser. I got picked off too. Then got the Blinder M27....now I get a warning telling me I got hit, I slow down quickly and the cop gets xxxx on his gun....reshoots me, and by then Ive slowed down (Blinder off by now) he get his reading (albight slower now ) and we both are good.

Man, I've never got hit with my 9500ci in over 2 years, and this kind of worries me. Usually for all of the radar, I eventually see the cops either sitting on the road or driving towards/away from me. But with the laser, I never know where its coming from. That sucks. Sorry bro. Are you sure you have your shifters on (not being condescending)? I thought I did, and it turns out they werent because every time I pressed "Mute" twice it said "Lockout" instead of the "Shifting Off". Had to manually turn on the shifters.
