An ESP Issue, please help

An ESP Issue, please help
Caveat: this refers to my ML63 but i am posting here because there a many more readers on this forum.
Anyway i was travelling along a sweeping left hander on a freeway accelerating from a rolling 10-15kms an hour trying to outrace a new M3 that i saw coming up from behind. I cant remember if the gearbox was in Sports or MANUAL mode but the ESP fully on. I planted the accelerator and the car seemed to do its thing and i think i was still in second approaching 100kmh maybe closing n on 6000rpm when all of a sudden the car lost power and slowed to a crawl ie about 20-30kmh and a warning flash come up on dash saying "ESP Inoperative - contact service" and the yellow ESP triangle came on. The car travelled at this low speed (touching the accelerator did nothing) for about 500m further and i turned off onto a side road - as the M3 sped past. Anyway i came to halt wondering what the fark. I turned the ignition off and on again, and warning meassage disappeared from dash and car returned to normal, functioning fine and no problems since.
Can anyone shed some light on this?? I might have actually had the car in Manual and left it in 2nd gear too long before changing up is the only thing i can think of but why would that set off the ESP and then virtually bring the car to a stand still?

+1 I had and have alot of issues with my car. And that looks like it's a limp mode issue. Why that happened no clue. But don't worrie if it happened and it just went away it's still in the system evendo it's not on the dash it's in the ecu and the stealership can read it and see what's up. Bring u car in and check it out.

My bet is they will just say oh you have flashed your ECU (i have powwerchip flash) your warranty is void, tough luck. Really dont want to take to dealer but if it happens again i guess i have no choice.
