Funny thing...this automatic transmission was the only aspect of the car that I was worried about, having owned only manuals over the years. Truth be told, for an automatic this is an awesome transmission, IMO. Great in rush hour traffic and equally good in spirited driving...I am really quite amazed at how much I like it. Would I prefer a MCT or DSG, sure, but I am very happy as is. Obviously, YMMV.

you're crazy, this transmission is as good as the M5's DSG. Also, the M5 is a big car. The C63 is nibble and very fast. Chip this car, and it is faster than the M5.

My only regret is that I didnt buy it sooner. Never regreted it once!

Same here...the double clutching in manual mode makes me justify this tranny....I thought I would miss the manual but I am very very happy as well...though having driven the MCT on numerous occassions, it is something that I do aspire to have next.

i Love the jerkiness of the smg. I just wish the tranny was a little more involving sometimes you know what i mean.

I would never buy a M over an AMG... But thats just my opinion! BMWs 5-class is equal to Mercedes´ E not C class. Or did you mean you would like a M3 over your C63?
I also like manuals transmission but of all the auto boxes I have driven the C63s is really really good. The "C" mode is good for normal driving, the S for fun sporty drive and then you have the "M" mode which gives you full control of the transmission (without the clutch of course).. The "S" mode is brilliant in my opinion.

the amg's tranny is very good for an automatic but im just saying i think an smg would make the c63 a even bigger animal then it is now

double clutching implies that you have a clutch...which you don't. You have a torque converter in your sissy stick.

My friend has an M5 with SMG. He says the transmission is very jerky in auto mode. After one of our track sessions he had to have the clutch replaced. I realize track capability does not tell the entire story. But with Dinan software and exhaust, the head instructor was only able to pull off a 1.102 lap time in the car. I have K2 and no PP suspension (yet). I was doing consistent laps right around 1.09. My fastest was 1.089 and slowest was 1.093. Big difference considering I have no where near the driving capability of the instructor. M5 is much heavier and understeers lot more then C63. He was told by dealer that next M5 will have much better transmission.

Don't speculate unless you driven both. I driven my friends 07 M-5 and it drives well and it sounds awesome but the shift engagement is so harsh that is not funny. It feels like when you drive a dogbox. My friend complains also about the poor gas mileage on his M-5 but I think the C63 is right there as well.

I just don't see what you don't like about the C63 AMG transmission, it shifts flawlessly and it can hold tons of torque.

No it wouldn't. What technical advantages do you think a SMG has over the AMG auto? Keep in mind I have VW GLI with DSG(first car manufacturer in the world to incorporate the dual clutch transmission, fastest engaging as well. All other manufacturers made nothing but copycats and they were too late into the technology) and despite all that the AMG shift smoother than my VW.

It is all about what you like, I personally love smooth sily shifts but if you like the harshness of the SMG the the M5 is your car.

i'm a little surprised the M5 was a consideration given the M3 is more similar to the C63. Wondering why you are not in an E63.

it totally sucks when you're in the wrong car. it especially sucks when you're in the wrong car with one of the highest depreciations known to mankind.

i would say go KLEEMANN K2 and you'll likely change your mind. however, your posts seem to focus on the transmission only. agreed. there is very little involvement with the transmission on this car. this car is about raw power, and very cool, very addicting throttle blipping downshifts.

so i recommend some more time in your c63. it's not unusual to have buyers remourse and many people recover from that just fine. if you don't, well, take a $10k loss and move on (assuming you got your C63 in the 55k range).

Dont u feel like your not involved as much when you use sport mode on the car ? Imo the paddle shifter are really to slow my m3's smg shifts where so quick compared to that but the amg has ton of power i guess there is trade off's

imho, C63=M3 and E63=M5

That said, the choice between the M3 and C63 is a toss up depending some very subjective things.

Between the M5 and E63, the E63 is the better daily driver and is easier to live with day in and day out.

I believe MHP offers a transmission shifting software that enhances the shifting. You might want to call them. I actually agree with you about the slow paddle shifting on the C63.

SMG sux which is why BMW is abandoning it in favor of the DCT. And, like other ppl said, get an ecu flash tune on your C63 AMG and you'll be happy again. Also, like taylorcoleman said, try downshifting more with the paddles to hear that awesome throttle blip and exhaust "burple" now and then...that should help put the smile back on your face. Funny b/c I haven't experienced buyer's remorse in the past several cars I've driven.

I go through this sometimes shortly after a big purchase...It will pass, trust me.
I just test drove the M5 for the first time last week. I would NEVER trade my E63, which certainly has an inferior transmission to the C63, with the M5. It is a pointless and ugly machine. I found the lack of torque to be the biggest disappointment, and the transmission is extremely jerky. The interior is not pleasing to the eye, as is the exterior (actually, non of the post Bangle cars do it for me). In contrast, my test drive of the PP C63 was unreal. Not in the same league, IMHO.

I have to agree, being involved with BMW's for many years, in this case, I feel the C63 wins my vote with a software tune

Drives Slowly
I would take an AMG with an SMG sequential gearbox in a heartbeat. I would take an AMG with a dual clutch sequential gearbox in half a heartbeat.

The best way to accept the Merc slush-box is to have a second car that does not have one.

Off topic, but I see you live in Pittsburgh. Have you ever tracked your car at Beaver Run?

When you mean tune software are you refering to just the engine or also the transmission?
