i definitely do not want to take anything away from the E-Class, it was an instant classic!

Now C class is actually very spacious car in its class. At least ISF, M3, RS4 are all less roomy than the C63. However you really can't use C63 as a family sedan unless you got thin wife and some skinny kids. Now E55 is the kind of car a family man can really drive on a daily basis.
I grew up driving big cars. In high school I drove a 1972 Duster (318ci V8) and a 1970 Chevelle 4-door (350ci V8). Big cars, particularly the Chevelle. A friend of mine drove a Plymouth Fury III, which was even bigger, and yet another friend had a Cadillac Deville convertible, which was even bigger still (472ci V8 with a sticky throttle cable ). We regularly would have 7 or 8 people comfortably in these cars (which is illegal for damn good reasons now for teens in many states ).

I've finally gotten back to my roots with my 220, and I'm digging the cavernous cabin.

I test drove a couple CLKs prior to buying it, and found them to be too small. I kept bumping in to the headliner trying to see the nose of the car when parking, and I'm only 5'10". I also drove an A4, which fit me better, but was still too small for the family (my wife is also 5'10" ).

I rode in my friend's E55 today, in the back seat, and it was comfortable, but I wouldn't want to sit back there more than an hour or two. I wouldn't want to sit in the back of a C for more than 5 minutes. Well, unless it's a 63 hammering down the road

Haha modern cars are definitely getting much smalelr cabin than cars use to. I am 6'3 and almost every sports car is too small for me however i love to drive small tight cars. Well i just have to suck it up i guess

OP mentions "stock" and "straight line". No contest!.... but who wants to drive just in a straight line? One day on a road course with the C63 will change how you feel about cars forever!

No ofense but when I look at the E55 it looks so obsolete that is not even an option. It looks like the Jaguar XJS from the 70's. I am not saying they are not fast, I drove them, I raced them and I think they are quick but the C63 AMG is a much fresher alternative, more agile and ultimately as quick or quicker.

I vote for the C63AMG however I don't mind having both.

Yeah, so the E55 is slightly faster, but old (with "older" styling) and out of warranty. The C63 is new (with newer styling), under warranty, does 0-60mph in 4.1-4.3 sec., 1/4mi. in 12.5 sec. @ 113mph (and ecu flashed tuned C63's run upper 11's to low 12's @ 115+mph), sounds like a real racecar with it's amazing exhaust AND pulls 0.94g on the skid pad. Sorry, no contest, imho.
