part of me agrees with you. i have also done research as well and looked into the ctsv. the only thing i do not like about it is its looks. to me it looks like an old mans car. no offense to anyone here who drives one. it isnt just with the ctsv, to me all cadillacs are for people 35+

I should point out that money IS a factor....I purchased most of my stable right after I was making a killing in real estate from 2001-2005. Those days are long gone.
Nowadays, while comfortable (no house and only one car payment) I am living off my little college teaching salary, which is much less than "real Dr." money, lol (I am a PhD, not an MD).
I bought my E350 because I got a killer deal (15 K off MSRP) surely there are not similar deals on C63's right now....are there? Who is selling new C63's for 52K?

If anything, if MB was successful in shrugging off it's old person's pensioners iconic image, I have little doubt Caddy won't be able to enjoy the same of better success. It's amazing how most people under 35 somehow think that MB came out of the womb with it's racing heritage intact. Like every other brand for the exception of Porches, Ferarri and Alfa, they were hear today,... gone tomorrow,... and mysteriously reappeared a week later as well. And also like every other Brand save the three mentioned above, that cycle played itself out more than once. Yes,... the war had some impact on that, but not all of it. On the last cycle, MB all but abandoned their racing involvement and focused almost entirely on people who would have given an arm and two legs for a free sample package of Cialis. This was the period where the only championships MB was winning was for 'who could equip their car with the World's Largest Steering Wheel'. When they finally decided to get back into racing and thought it might be a good idea to build something that might appeal to folks other than those enjoying their pensions, they were somewhat behind the curve and had nothing but aircraft carriers in their stables. They re-entered with what would be considered today, their S Class chassis. Only one MB chassis larger,... the W100 Grosser! True, the early years were magnificent, with the likes of the Teardrops and the Silver Arrows, and later the Gull Wings variants and SEL's. But they were race specific cars and not available for sale excepting later SEL's. Still, clearly the Mercedes Benz icon at the time were,... you guessed it,... old peoples!
Look man,... bottom line, all this MB pedigree with racing is a reality, however, it's very easy to overstate it and embellish it. Especially in our context. Few of us in here represent full-on racing endeavors. We buy our stuff off the shelf so to speak. And in that respect, until the advent of AMG, MB was pretty much like Caddy is now. Granted MB recognized this and brought AMG inhouse,... good move.
Just understand this 'pedigree' stuff we all enjoy today hasn't always been there, and there have been those, particularly out of Italy who like some of you, considered the MB an Old Person's Automobile. And those from the Isles would rather be seen in something duct taped together by British Leyland than to be caught dead in anything by MB.
Like I said,... MB did well in getting off the pensioner's mantle, and I believe Caddy has taken the necessary steps in doing the same starting with their 1st gen V's. Now the 2nd gen V is upon us,... and so far, it's left many pedigreed coches broken and curled in fetal position in it's wake, I believe Caddy has finally gotten that 'Princess kiss' and the transformation has begun. Now all we have to do is wait to be completely un-frogged. How many more models at Caddy's current V pace will it take to completely shake the old person's curse in the eyes of those living under rocks and aren't necessarily up on current events? Don't know. But the upcoming CTS-V coupé will no doubt accelerate things. And Lord help us if Caddy decides to get serious with the XLR. Can you image that? A gentleman's ZR1.

As a purely "bang for the buck" car, I think the CTS-V has the C63 covered. Much more modding potential (FI), better stock performance, more power.
As a luxo/perf car, however, I give the nod to the C63. The looks of the Merc can't be beat IMO, and the overall feel of the car is better. Plus it's a MBZ. The Caddy does have the "old man's car" thing going against it, although I certainly do NOT define "old" as "35+"
I'm not thinking "old" 'till the 60's roll around!
2 different cars, 2 very different buyers typically.

I looked for 6 weeks to find my car and there were no such deals to be found. I feel like I grossly overpaid when I read these stories of great deals on here but in reality.....they did not exist when I was buying. (purchased last month).

Those great deals were actually very local, meaning, you had to find a dealer who simply had to move it off their lot. Also, most were before the 2010 model was released.

Well that's kinda strange. Conventional thinking would suggest that some of the best deals would surface in and around the time the lots were full of both 2010's AND 2009's. Wouldn't it? I think!?!?! Seems they (the dealers AND manufacturers) would want to clear out the old to make room for the new thru deep discounting. Then again,... maybe they'd choose to stay away from big discounting in order not to cannibalize any prospective 2010 sales. You know,... pretty much the same logic MB used in deciding to hide the E Class Coupé from AMG, as if AMG was the repo man or something. Not really sure how that works.
