275/35/R18 look huge!

Anyone have 275/35/R18 tires installed on their C63? I ordered and had installed today two Continental Extreme Contact DW 275/35/R18 on my C63 AMG and they look huge! I'm strongly considering taking them back and replacing with OEM size. The side walls are much larger than the OEM tires and are noticeably more balloon like in appearance. Perhaps this is because of the wheel width?? Anyone else notice this with this tire size? I've checking and there are almost no tires out there in 275/30/R18- was considering going to a 30 series to reduce the side wall width but DiscountTire or TireRack do not carry any such tire. Your thoughts? Anyone else notice how much larger these tires appear on the stock 18 inch rim?

Looks like an old school muscle car from the fifties with big meats on the back and little tires up front- not cool.

Thanks for the info. I was considering going with that size after the winter season as I found that the OEM 255/35 too narrow. I guess 265/35 might be the best choice then.

of course it has to do with the width of the tire...sidewall height is directly proportional to it's width...

i believe the second number (35) refers to a percentage?

can someone confirm that...

We did that exact same tire and size on C63 customer also here in San Diego, and the tires looked fine. If you feel they are too balloony, then you may want to go back down to 265/35 18. Where did you order your tires from? Maybe they will exchange them for the desired tire size.

Let us know if we can help you.

The (35) in your tire size refers to the aspect ratio - This means the sidewall's height is roughly 35% of the tire's width.

Therefore a 275/35/18 is going to be taller than a 255/35/18

(35% of 275 mm is 96mm tall)
(35% of 255 mm is 89mm Tall)

its less than a cm difference, but since its also wider, so it will bubble out on the rim

I have these exact same tires and am happy with them (James installed them - as noted above)

I have seen the 165 Conti installed on the stock rim and to my eye there was little difference appearance wise from the 175. I agree that there is more of a "balloon" appearance than the stock set-up but I would think this is going to be consistent with all brands as you increase the width of the tire without increasing the width of the rim. A matter of taste I would say.

As for the performance, I prefer the wider conti over the stock tires. The rear tends to hold better while cornering and its better hooking up. Too early to tell how the tread will hold up (the stock rear tires only lasted 7,000 miles for me).

Keep in mind though that the T1Rs are one of the more narrow tires out there. Your set up looks great though Phil.

I second that! I think any wider than 275 requires 19s, which would then probably require some body work..

The 285 fits no problem on the rim? I thought the biggest we could go is 275.

U are rite about the widest we can go. BUT nitto 555r run smaller then your regular 285. That why we are able to run that tire. And thay barely just fits. But looks amazing. I'm kinda up in the air about what tire to get next. Nitto555r or nitto nt01 or Mickey toms et2. I had 1and3 the nt01 are roadracing tires but I'm sure they will work wonders on drag. The 555r are by far the best looing tire on c63 from behind and last longer them the mckey toms. But the Mickey toms are the best tire for drag+street takeoffs hands down.

I think I've seen your car once or twice while I was in my 335i. Car looks and sounds great bro. I'm thinking Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 as my next tire.

Just recently went with 275s on the rear and I love the look and grip. Only thing I don't like is that they stick out a little more beyond the fender than the stocks so any time I go over any moisture on the road, the tires spray it all over the rear of the car. Since I live at the foot of a hill, there's water runoff on the streets for weeks after any rain so having to rinse and dry the car anytime I go anywhere is getting kinda old. Might want to think about that if you leave in a wet region of the country.

I live out in LI when I'm not here in Miami for school. I think I've seen you on the Cross Island Parkway? If not, it was on another road but I'm about 99% sure it was your ride.

True that, my Pirelli P-Zero Corsa (265/35/19) are wider than my old Toyo T1R (275/35/19)

The stock rear pirellis on the c63 are actually very wide for a 255.
I recently tried a nexen 275 which didnt measure as wide as the stock pirelli.
Now ive got 275 yokohama advan sport which are huge for a 275.
These yokis measure 40mm wider than the same size nexen.
What im saying is the number on the tyre is more a guide and that all brands are different.

FWIW, I picked up a set of C63 rims for my C350 and they came with 275/35/18's and while I thought they looked great, I could tell my acceleration took a slight hit. It's like driving around with a full tank vs. 1/4 tank or driving solo vs. with a passenger. It might not even be noticeable though with your ~190HP advantage...
