tire question

I would like to get slightly wider tires on my car when these wear out in a few months. I don't quite under stand the number system on tires. keeping the same profile on the stock rims. what size would work? thanks for your constructive comments.

265/35 and 275/35 should work fine on stock wheels...There's a recent thread with pics of a 275/35 on stock wheels. I'm fairly sure that 285 or wider will require some type of fender mod.

thanks Even, but i was thinking more along the lines of just a little wider like 245 and 265. what is the other number that would make the normal hight.

35 is the height of the sidewall...but with a wider tire if you keep the sidewall at 35 the tire will seem a little thicker.

Front stock: 235/40/18
Rear stock: 255/35/18

I have 235s on the front in spec and 265/35/18s on the back and I suspect that causes about a one mph difference (will say 59 mph but actually going 60 mph) on the odometer. Love the higher traction though.

Most of this stuff is in some of the tires threads on here plus www.tirerack.com has some great articles on all tire aspects. Love those guys.

no, that is too small for the front..since the jump is so small up front, you can keep the height the same, the same for the rear..The proper sizes are..

Front : 245/40/18
Rear : 275/35/18

I'm thinking of going 265 too after Winter (PS2 probably or perhaps Direzza). I would like more traction but I'm a bit concerned by having the car feel heavier with the wider tires. Have you experienced that at all?
