I saw they are noticeably cheaper the the Michelin PS2's. I was looking into them as well as a means to maybe save a couple bucks and not sacrifice performance.

Oh, Gotchya! I've had the hankooks one for a week, and I can def. tell you they grip better than the pirelli's. Maybe not as good as the PS2's but still good, I mean the differnece between all great grippy tires is so minimal that you even be able to tell the difference that much. Anyway good luck.

I'll be setting them up on my baby (245/35/19 F 275/30/19 R)
Even with the tread wear of 180, I feel the wider tire setup should offer better longevity to spread out that power a little. I'm use to R compound tires with a treadwear of 40 so 180 sounds good to me.
I've also hesitated to go with Hankook V12 and did a lot of research on them. They are great street tires, but I would not suggest them for high horsepower applications around the track (less precise, less grip). Very good tires but not as good as the Potenza's.

Thanks for the info!
I was thinking that PS3 would be the next evolution of PS2.
It would be nice if some company can come up with a solution for both our problems long life and good grip + price

The Potenza RE11 have been reviewed as pretty much the closest street tire to an R compound. Not much info is around since it's a new technology. It's a heavy tire compared to the light PS2's but very low noise, good wet grip and incredible dry grip, with excellent precision, and a very decent price too! I know you are like me and will be tracking the car so if you are not going with an R compound (cause it's a hassle to change tires each time you race / or don't), this is the tire you need.

Thanks Chief. I have the same thoughts. I ran on my 18's on the track last season and kept the 19's for street. Thinking of just running the 19's this season. I am looking at the same sizes in 19" as well. Probably get 2 sets to start and see how it goes. Got the itch bad....

I tired of having the back wheel spin even at part throttle.
Since they put these tires on porsche gt3 and gt2 I guess you can use them on the street even when wet.
Would they wear out even faster that the OE P zero in your opinion?

PS: The Dunlops have about 4,000 miles on them including 4 track days and one failed attempt at the drag strip. (they are not DR's by any means) The rears look like they would last another 4,000 miles if I didn't plan to abuse them next week.

Either Z99 or Early Apex ran a set of Hankooks at the track and was NOT pleased. They seem to be a very good low cost alternative for street duty but whoever commented about track use described chunks of tire coming apart. I will get one more track weekend on my Dunlop Star Spec's (next week) and I am considering the the RE-11's for the next event in May. Can't really evaluate how well the Dunlops last because I did not start stressing the tires hard until the last day of the second weekend. Even still these tires have grip that usually exceeds my comfort level and when the limit was reached it was easily anticipated and the tires never left me hanging. What is funny is the amount of cars that have spun around in front of me during the few track days that I have experienced.

I'm torn between an R compound or something in the 180 range as a compromise. Time will tell.
I appreciate the feedback

In Japan Bridgestone RE-11 is very popular tire. I never tried it but it seems very good. Here is other tire that is popular in Japan.
1. Yokohama Advan: Neova: http://www.yokohamatire.com/tires/advan_ad08.aspx
I love this one!
2. Michilen: Sport Cup: http://www.michelinman.com/tires/ult...lot-sport-cup/
This was really a super grip tire.

Barry, you got that itch for tracking, don't you......
Hehe.....I don't exactly "swear by" the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs, but I think they are a very good tire when its dry for tracking. I've used the Dunlops on the 135i for 5 track events in 2009, and they may be good for another event come this spring/summer. However, I'm pretty sure they will have to be replaced. Of course, they were MUCH better than the stock Bridgestone run flats that came with the car on the track, but I have no personal experience comparing them to another ultra high performance street tire like the Bridgestone RE-11's. In fact, I was thinking of trying the RE-11's this season to replace the Dunlops. One good thing about the RE-11 is that is a non-directional tire, meaning I can rotate them from side to side to even out wear (as most tracks run in a clockwise direction and there are more right turns than left turns).
Remember, I had trouble keeping up with you at Shannonville in the wet, while I was able to keep up with you at Mosport in the dry with the Dunlops in the 135i, so your Pirellli p-zero's really impressed in the wet.
I can say one thing though......the Michelin PS2 is an awesome tire, at least for the C55. Sure, the sidewalls are little soft and shoulder wear is relatively high (probably because of lack of significant -ve camber on my stock C55), but they grip really well and I think are a big reason why I could keep up with you at Mosport in the C55 by going faster in the corners.

Hey Pat. woke up with the itch this morning Can't shake it. Just got my car out of the shop after a week. Nasty incident with a 2x4 on hwy 407 2 days before Christmas. New bumper.
I do think tires had a play in you catching up to me through the corners. When I pulled them the next morning both fronts had chunks missing and the R Front had a 10 " split in the inside sidewall. P-zero's were on their way out...I got lucky!!
I really think its your skills that made the real difference, Your a force man!!
Can't wait for spring and a chance to run together again.
Mike says its time for steak dinner. You in??
