Photos :: Quaife QDF9V ATB LSD vs. OEM Differential
I took some quick photos of the Quaife QDF9V ATB Differential compared to the OEM unit during my install. I also weighed each of the units. The Quaife unit is approximately 3.5 lbs heavier than the OEM unit.
Quick Note: Besides the LSD unit, you'll need the following OEM parts to successfully complete the install on a C63.
Qty 2 - MBZ 230 997 03 46 (Mercedes Benz Seal Ring - Interior Flange)
Qty 2 - MBZ 001 989 17 03 10 (Mercedes Benz OEM Differential Fluid)
Qty 1 - MBZ 003 989 98 20 10 (Mercedes Benz Sealant)
Much thanks to James@ACGSD for providing a great deal on the LSDs and a simple parts list/install kit for the installs. You've got four very happy customers up in the PNW.
Quaife (Left) and OEM (Right)
Quaife (Left) and OEM (Right)
Quaife ~19.5 lbs
OEM ~16.0 lbs

If I recall correctly, you need the heatsink, a new cover and a couple bolts for roughly $200. Certainly a nice option for those interested.

thank you for the information. How extensive was the install? Did the quaife drop in easily? Any more details would be awesome, if I need to send a PM, please let me know.
Is the heatsink built into the new diff cover or is it a separate piece, internal or external, a picture would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

A quick search for heatsink in this sub-forum will provide you with the info on the cooler.
I never mentioned an OEM LSD. Not sure where you got that.

Have you heard of any warranty issues with replacing LSD? I asked my dealership service about putting one in for me. I just posted a thread with MB mechanic saying there is.

Thanks, nice write-up on the diffs.
The AMG heatsink is a bolt-on for those who have the correct diff cover. Here’s a pic for those that are interested.

No. In fact, one of our local dealers was going to do the installs untill we found a less expensive alternative.
Both tires are certainly spinning. The traction difference is most noticeable on the corners. Reminds me a lot of my '06 M5.

Thanks superlubricity. Appreciate the input. Wondering if this was a way the master mechanic wanted to get out of doing it because he hasn't done it before. Kept on going on about the spider gears made exactly for this car etc.
Also thanks for the great post on your install. I guess I should just get the Quaife from James and hunt for someone who knows what they are doing to do an install.

I had a Quaife LSD ATB on my GTI before. I must stay after you put this on!!
the car feels totally different!!! the way how the car reacts very different especially when you take it to the track! it so much more responsive!
its a must !! for people who likes to go tracking.

2013 Chevy 427 Torch Red
I really thought that I could get away without an LSD until we went to Sebring this weekend. The lack of acceleration in the middle of the three hairpins was BEYOND frustrating and the rear would want to snap when the free spinning tire gripped again.

Any feedback would be appreciated. I'm also thinking about getting this mod. I don't plan on tracking my car but I'm thinking it's a must for the strip.
