Suspension doing my head (and back in)!!

Hi guys, I really do love the C63 and don't want to sell it but having this car with the P30 performance pack and driving on the roads (30k per annum) is really tireing. The ride is simply too hard for our roads and I would like some suggestions please or she will have to go!! On our roads it makes your voice quiver when speaking sometimes and forget about trying to write (as a passenger)!! Heeeeeelp!!!

Do you have a European model with 19 wheels? If so then maybe you should try 18s and it should soften the ride some.

Yes the C63 has a stiff ride. You can always change to softer tires if you want a smoother ride, Just a thought.

Change springs? I have taken ≈5lbs of unsprung weight off of each corner via the forged wheel route and can definitely feel the difference driving the poor-condition L.A. roads in my P30 car. I'm sufficiently encouraged by the improvement in ride quality to know that I will be getting the Evosport rotors to see what subtracting another 6lbs per corner will do. That said, if you are driving on similar roads I can tell you that the improvements in ride that I have experienced are only incremental in nature...the basic character of the P30 suspension is etched in stone IMO. On the smooth newer OC roads though, the suspension really feels perfect given that I prefer a firm ride in general.

You have a couple choices. Either go the coil over route or find someone (on this forum?) that would be interested in trading out their standard C63 struts/shocks and springs with you.

KW V3 on the softest setting will do it for you. As far as I know they only put stiffer springs on the P30, not better shocks. Or trade the P30 for stock springs, you will probably find a taker here!

I drive an '08' and the suspension is way too harsh for me as well. I guess i just kind of forget about it being that I love all the other positive things about the C63.

I have a P30, and I'll be putting on H&R springs soon - I'll let you know if that helps.

It is hard so I was thinking on getting KW and make it better ride. Right now going fast on freeway and if there is a bump it is kind of scary.

It won't help much to reduce stiffness. You're still going to be driving stiffer springs with the stock shocks. The only thing that will help are the KW V3 or go with the stock springs.

Well I think that's the KW V3 strongest point regarding stiffness, it greatly reduces high speed bumps. It's actually much smoother than the stock non P30 setup. At low speeds its a bit stiffer with the recommended settings, but you can set it to a softer setting. At low speeds I don't think you can achieve a ride that's much smoother than stock, only probably match it.

According to Chief63-
"As far as I know they only put stiffer springs on the P30, not better shocks"

Trade the springs-not the shocks, if your are trying to retain a stock style suspension. The V3 coil over set up will cost more to purchase as well as install and setup, but with likely more satisfactory results.

C63 AMG Arctic w/ Stage 1 Tune, DoubleXX pipe, MCD-631X coming soon
I also agree with the suggestions to switch to the KW V3. KW has done a lot to build suspension systems, that meet or exceed TUV specifications, which is a huge hurdle. The ride characteristics of the KW is very good and totally tuneable. The compression and rebound adjustments allow for proper compliant ride without a sacrifice in handling. Yes, you can switch to the normal C63 springs, but the shocks/dampers are different as well. bhamg also gives a good insight as to the effects of ride/handling in terms of going with lighter wheels, everything he said is true. Every 1lb shaved of unsprung weight is about equal to shaving 7lbs off the car, it also allows the suspension to not work as hard for control as well, really helps on rebound big time. Hope this helps a bit!
