Lets see your tint percentages?
I am going to get my tint done today. I was thinking of going with 35% ceramic. Don't want too dark. Would love to see your cars with the tint and percentage.

35% on sides and rear.
Though I must say it’s almost impossible to tell how effective the percentage is from photographs. Reflections from the sun and cloud cover give a misleading look. I use 35% because it is the darkest legal here.

Terrible shot, but all that I have.
Hopefully the rainbow overtop of strip mall suburbia makes up for it.
And it's worthy to note that this is a DARK 45% - that is, cops notice it.

I've been reluctant to tint for fear of jacking up my radio reception by installing over the antenna in the rear glass. Are my fears unfounded? Has anyone had any negative consequences from installing any tint products? Are there some to avoid?

OK, time for tint 101. What do the numbers mean? Is 35 darker than 50 or lighter? I've never tinted a car in my life but am toying with the idea with my white 63.

Iridium with 20%. Not quite as dark as it looks in this picture because it was a cloudy day and the angle makes them look black. In person, you can *just barely* see in the car from the outside without straining.

I got my window tinted at the same place my local Mercedes dealership tint their cars. I was told they always do 20% on the rear windshield, and 35% on the sides... mine came out perfect.

this is 15% on a sunny day. ohh yea when the cop put the meter on my tints it showed 11%
they are way darker then they look on pix, once the sun goes down you cant see inside at all!! but in the sun they are perfect.

I got pulled over 2 times today going to work.
I was 3 block away from my job and live 2 miles away. Tnk god no tickets tnx PBA cards.
now tonight I'm going home and taking my tints off. This is about the 30th time I got pulled over within 2 year and 3 months and only 1 ticket. I'm just sick and tierd off getting pulled over for tints.
Good luck bc here in NYC you allowed 0% tint.
I got pulled over 2 times today going to work.

What are the laws in NYS about tinted vehicle windows?
Answer
Section 375 (12-a) of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law does not allow a windshield or front side windows that are dark. The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30% of the light. Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window. This law also applies to the rear window unless the vehicle has outside rear-view mirrors on both sides. The mirrors must give the driver a full and clear view behind the vehicle.
If the vehicle is classified as a station wagon, sedan, hardtop, coupe, hatchback or convertible, the rear side windows must also allow at least seventy percent of light from the outside to pass through the window.
It is illegal to sell, offer for sale, or install glass that does not comply with this law. It is illegal to operate a vehicle with glass that does not comply with this law.
If a medical condition requires a person to have tinted vehicle windows, they can request an exemption from the law. Request form MV-80W from a DMV Office or Call Center.
The text of this law and a 2009 opinion of the DMV Office of Counsel are attached below under "File Attachments".
