Yes, it does seem to be temp related. The sound comes from the variable cam timing events, it creates a different valve overlap which changes the exhaust pitch.

I just noticed that when I cold start my car (after even leaving it overnite), it doesn't have that loud "WTF" bark anymore. It sounds like a regular start as if the engine has been running awhile prior. Does it start up differently when you are within 20 days of service? Or is it affected by the ambient temp of the motor or oil? The inside of my garage is quite hot now that it is summer. This is the first year of ownership for me and I hardly drive it (just hit 2100 miles) so I am not intimately familiar with all of it's characteristics. The first oil change is due because of time and not mileage.

Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if after a few cold starts with your driver door opened, that you start closing all the doors and windows before you cold start your beast with headers/mids.
That's how it was for me in my previous car. It was so loud. I only lasted about 2 weeks with the header/cats delete. Then I had them removed, but I wasn't really doing the mod for power because I had a good size blower adding moderate boost.
For C63's I completely understand the utility of headers because we have NA motors. If the sound wasn't so loud, I would definitely get them at some point.

Same here, the BARK is back. Love those cold mornings, and we finally got our first cold front of the year in Houston. I have noticed that if the oil temp guage on the "AMG" speedo mode shows less than about 80 degrees you get the nice start-up bark. My car is garaged, so it has to be pretty darn cold outside and/or not driven for a couple days before that happens. The first time I test drove a C63 at Mercedes of Sugarland it was in the winter time and was pretty cold. The car had probably been sittting on the lot for several days since being driven, so it was stone cold. The salesman let me get in and start it up, and I had the door open when I started it. I thought the engine had exploded. And, of course, at that very moment I knew what my next car was going to be.
