judder when taking off at idle engine speed?
Hi all,
I'm experiencing what i can best describe as a judder when i'm taking off from standstill at idle engine speed (so no throttle whatsoever).
It's most noticable when foot is still slightly on the brake e.g. when crawling in traffic or slowly pulling into a parking.
According to my local dealer it's "normal" and something typical for the 7Gtronic box but i find that a bit hard to believe and haven't driven any other C63's to compare so the question is: is anyone else feeling the same??
mine's a 2009 model
thanks for any replies!

Hi Zephyr.... thanks for your quick reply.
it's not harsh or anything but a noticable judder especially when car is on running temp. sometimes more noticable than other times.
pls do me a favor and next time you're in yours try to slowly ease your foot off the brake and let the car crawl forward from standstill.
thanks!!

i get the same thing...my dealership said its the catch/release point of the brakes, or something like that...
i get it when im pulling into my garage and just kind of coasting in, or when im at complete stop before parking and inching to my spot

yup, sounds like exactly the same thing way you describe it!
it isn't the brakes though cos if i let go of the brake you can also feel it shortly at the very moment of starting to roll (but a lot less cos the car isn't being kept at rpm at which it happens)
i myself think it's the springs in the torque convertor assembly that cause the judder as they are compensating torque pulses from the engine at these very low rpms. just wondering if it's something to worry about or claim under warranty or it the dealer's right and most of them have it.
service advisor said he tried 3 other ones after my complaint and they all have it.... thing is he can tell me anything but i'd rather hear from other owners for my own piece of mind.

We would get this on E90 generation BMW's. When stopped the transmission would switch itself into neutral and couple the torque converter, so the stutter would be caused by the torque converter jumping as the transmission switched back into gear.
I'm not sure if the 7G does this, however.

I have a 2013 model ie the "new" transmission that does it. My 2010 ie "old" transmission did not do it.
I notice it particularly in stop start driving in traffic. You have just come to a stop with the brake applied then lift off the brake slightly to get the car inching forward but still holding it with the brake. There is a subtle "shudder" as the car starts moving forward. I can only liken it to what you get in a manual car when you are not smooth releasing the clutch/not applying enough throttle, and the car "bunny hops" very slightly. It does not seem to occur for example if you take off at normal speed with throttle applied.
I have decided it is completely "normal" (a case of the old "they all do that sir") but I will be adding it to the list of things to mention at the next service.
