Build date
This may seem trivial, but I just noticed that the build date on my car was March 2010. My car is a 2010 model.
That is unusual, in my experience, because all the cars I have ever owned were built in the year before.
For example, I traded in my Cayenne TT, it was an 04 but had a build date of September 2003.

I think around August of the year previous is usually the beginning of a New Model Year. and maybe sooner for an "All New" model

I believe traditionally August is a sort of "car new year" - anything built in/after august was called a 'new' model year - for example, a car built in September 02 would be an 03 model year.
Nowadays things are getting really confusing. There are alleged-MY11 out as early as mid 2010 for some manufacturers. All a bit strange, really...
