check engine light after removing charcoal filters???

two days ago, i removed the charcoal air filters. it ran fine for the past two days but last night i had a check engine light come on. has any one else had this problem when removing these charcoal filters?

when i was removing the filters, i also pulled off the box covering the ECU. i put it back on but it wasnt sitting right....could that have triggered the check engine light to come on?

is there a way that i can try and reset the check engine light myself so that the light goes away or do i have to bring it to the dealership?

thank you for any help any one can provide...sorry if this is a repeat on the thread.

W203 slightly modified
It would appear that you randomly attacked some point in the wiring harness near the fuse box. Nothing to do with the charcoal filters.

i removed my charcoal and then put on some AFE filters and drove the car for 2 years without any CEL. I'd check to make sure you look at the ECU box back on correctly. Maybe a wire is crimped or something is loose.

if the box is not on tight, there would be a vacuum leak and this would indeed cause the light...you have to bring it back to the dealer and have them put it on the diagnostic computer and reset the CEL. No biggee.

AFE makes dry filters for our cars?

Thats what the problem is, Even if the Filter covers aren't on securely it will throw CEL.
