oil level - consumption question
i bought my 09 C63 with 9500mls in April 2010 and since i bought it from a MB dealership with CPO i assumed that they put in new oil or at least made sure it was topped off. of course i did not check this so who knows. i just reached 11500 mls and found that the oil level had reached the lower of the two lines on the stick so i added a quart which got it back up to about 30% from the upper line, does that make sense?
anyway, i am curious to know what the consumption actually is and of course i wont know exactly until i know how many miles it will take me to get the level down to the bottom stripe/line.
one thing i do know is that i have driven cars for a long time and the last time i had to add oil between oil changes to any of my cars was more than 20 years ago in a heavily abused 86 BMW 323i .
since than i have had several BMW M3's, audi's and we have a vw Touareg V8 with 30K mls which my wife forgot to change oil (my fault really) and the level had only dropped to the exact middle of the 2 lines after 10k mls!!
so what is normal oil consumption for the C63?
when is the oil consumption considered excessive?
thanks for any input you may have and perhaps you could share with the board what your estimated consumption is.

Ya it consumes alot of oil, especially when pushed hard. A message will actually come one telling you to check your oil level at next refueling. I add 1/2 to 1 quart of oil depending on my current oil level.

I tend to consider anything more than a quart every 3K to be excessive GENERALLY SPEAKING. My 2009 at 13K has not burned any measurable amount in the 4500 miles I've owned it. And I do drive pretty aggressively (quick from 0 to speed limit) and mostly around town.
The mfg's (most) will say they will not repair unless consumption is more than a quart per thousand!

All AMGs, especially the M156 powerplants consume oil until their fully broken in. I would think with the mileage your car has, that it's fully broken in. If you push your car hard all the time, then you'll get oil consumption, it's just the nature of the beast. If your worried about this then fill your oil close to the top of the dip stick fill notch. That way, youi don't have to worry about the oil until it reaches a level that the car tells you to check it. My 07 E63 has 26,600 miles on it, and I've only had to top off the oil twice. i'm do for a oil service in 2300 miles. I can honestly say that my car doesn't consume oil, even when pushed hard.

thanks for the input. from what i read most recommend for sure an oil change at 10K mls. when i bought the car i did not ask if they changed the oil, i kind of assumed they did , but that was probably i little naive . despite the fact that when buying a USD 55K car with 9.5kmls they should just take care of it one should never assume they did! the way the oil looked , really dirty, i figure they did not so tomorrow i am going in for an oil and oil filter change, better be safe than sorry.
