Quick pics of Volks GR2s installed
Guys,
Here are some quick snap-shots of the Volks GR2s that I had installed yesterday. I need to have the car detailed once I finish the 5-6 exterior mods in the next week or so and then I will find an appropiate setting to take better pics. Just a quick clean and snapped these. Ran out of tire polish so tires look dull and they are dirty as it rained yesterday when I drove home from the install.
I looked at a bunch of wheels including F14s, ADV1s and other but decided to give these a try as I had not seen them on the C63 before and thought I would give it a shot. The guinea pig in me I guess. A gamble for sure on a newly released wheel, but what the hell. I guess someone needs to jump in so others can see results.
As with all Rays the quality of the wheels is outstanding. Very light weight when compared to OEM. As to be expected the ride became more firm with 19s when compared to OEM 18s but in the short time I drove on them I felt I had more "feel" of the road than with 18s. Today is nice and sunny so I will go out and push and see how the new set-up works. Asthectics wise I am pleased with the look, but not over the top excited.
Specs:
Finish: Formula Silver
Face type 1
Sizing: F: 19-8.5 offset 45
R: 19-9.5 offset 50
Rubber: Conti SP5 F: 235/35 R: 265/30
Overall a 7/10 result IMHO. I like the feel and performance of the wheel so far and time will tell how they do in the long run. At the end of the day my objective here is to have a different look and experiment with mods with a final goal of getting to a unique overall look. I have to install tinted rear lights, black grill and a few other minor mods this weekend so don't have time to get better pics done at this moment.

just to add a little humor to the thread...here is the difference between guys and gals when it comes to automobiles....wife pulling out as I am taking pics of new wheels. Notice the fact that her GL 450 is a dirt collector on 4-wheels! Just had the thing detailed a week ago. You should see the inside But I guess this to be expected with 2 young kids and it been the "family truckster".

Mort, you know I was thinking the same thing. Hence why I gave the mod a 7/10 as far as success is concerned. Sizing was recommended by Rays so played it safe but I will most likely burn through these SP5s and then move to another tire in short order. I would like a fuller look to the wheel-well. I will say that the ride is alot better than 18" P-zeros and grips alot better as well.

Nice wheels!
How good the Conti SP5 is in term of grip? It's better than P-zero from your feedback. Comparing with Bridgestone RE-11?

I most likely bring in from the states some Nittos 555s as they are hard to get here. They are according to the people that have used them just amazing as far as grip is concerned.

Thanks for input! My experience is Japanese formula RE-11 (usually Japanese formula is better than worldwide formula) is better than P-zero to some certain level in term of grip. I mean about 20% improvement not a slight improvement (+/-5%). Of course, I know this description is also vague. But that's all I can share!
BTW, what is the speed rate of SP5? Re-11 is W-rate and only good for 270km/hr( about 170mph).

Thanks. I am not sure about comparison with RE-11s as I have not run those yet. Just burned through 2 sets of P-zeros before I gave up on them. So far the SP5s seem to be doing ok. Did a high-speed run yesterday when it was warm and the car was solid and road-feel was excellent.

I have the 295's on my 9.5" wide TE37. Everyone said I was crazy but they work great, I'm just not a big fan of the stretched look that a lot of people are trying to achieve.
I think if you add the dual phase lug bolts to that combination it would look amazing.
