Car shutting down after launch
Hi guys
A friend of mine with a C63 has been having some issues lately.
Evertime he launches the car from abour 1300-1500 the car gets going and then at about 3500 the car sort of shuts down for about 0.5 / 1 second and then gets going again. Does the same with DR and street tyres. Car throws no error codes at all. I he goes about half throttle till 3500rpm and then floors it the car is fine. We both have the exact same exhaust and tune so it is not tune related.
Any ideas what it could be?

The car needs a higher stall torque converter badly. The stock stall
just doesn't cut it. I think it bogs because your not able to launch
the car in or near its peak torque range. A 3000 to 3500 stall converter
would do the trick.
Keith/Dads, what stall speed are you going with in your car?

^ Thanks super.
I think he would benefit more with a slightly higher stall, maybe
3200.
I remember back in the day with my 1990 Mustang LX 5.0 with AOD
transmission, a simple torque converter(3500 stall) change from
stock netted me consistent high 1.6 and low 1.7 60' times. In stock
form I was consistently in the high 1.8's, on slicks ofcourse.
I know were talking about two totally different cars but wouldn't
the principal remain the same?

Funny, I brought up my previous experience (quite similar to yours) in this thread last night-> https://mbworld.org/forums/4252281-post194.html

I wonder what a custom made torque converter costs.
Before doing headers I may go this route.
BTW, I ran a 12.32 @ 114 with a 1.87 60' time at Raceway Park in Englishtown last night. I was kind of disappointed with my trap
speed. I was expecting my mph to be a little faster.

Same here, happened to me last night at E-Town. 1.87 60 foot.

Atco is that much better?
Also, I kept having problems with the TPMS sensors. Set the M/T drag
radials at 20 psi in the rear and I kept getting check tire pressure
messages during my runs.
Can this have an affect on power? Will the ECU kill power if it thinks
your tires are low on pressure?

Can't go today, have plans. Sometime next week is better for me.![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

The M/T's are tall. I'll have to look at the Nitto's for my next set.

What was your DA? You can see in my sig, I ran about what you did with me having 405 whp. Almost same RT. I think if you reset the TPMS after letting the air out, should be fine.

I tried to reset the TPMS to current values but it didn't seem
to work. Every run about halfway down the track the dash would
light up red and the check tire pressure message would pop up.

My best 60' was with the Nitto 555r drag radials. The DA was incredibly good so all the planets were aligned. LOL There is no secret. I stage at 1000-1200 rpms and just mash and go.
The new converter is 2800 and I know a higher number would help the 1/4 mile but we are setting up to run the mile right now. We'll see after that.
