I do alot of highway driving to and from work, I certainly understand your view point. If I could share a little story, I had a 94 Mustang GT, that I modified the exhaust with two chamber flowmaster. The drone killed me, it occured between 1800-2200 rpm @ 70mph. I absolutely hated it. I had a turn up the stereo just to get over drone noise.

Sounds wicked.

I was told that the resonator is actually an "x-pipe." Perhaps it is also a resonator.

Are you concerned that performance may have been affected?

The resonator has an H pipe, about the size of a nickel or so...I think.. There's a pic somewhere on this board, if I recall correctly.

The resonator is mainly for the sound, and the H pipe to balance the exhaust pulses. It's fairly free flowing as is, so not sure why folks delete it...I guess if they simply want it louder. You might actually lose some hp by doing this. I think the better mod, besides headers, would be to delete the sec cats with an x pipe...if you must do something to the exhaust

Okay, so it's an H-pipe. Thanks for filling me in.

Yes, I would imagine that an OEM H-pipe is there for a reason, but you can tell that it also is a resonator, because why else make it look so big?

I completely agree with your thoughts on removing the secondary cats, although I really don't think it would make that much of a performance difference. I just think it may make the exhaust sound louder, which would be a good thing if that's what you're after.

Personally, I want my exhaust to be a bit louder so I am considering that option.
