A C63 gives you some of the best balance of exotic-like performance with daily driver comfort and reliability. An exotic like a Ferrari or Lambo cannot usually be used as a daily driver. The cars are not comfortable for daily driving, you'll scrape the front spoiler or bottom out on many driveways, the audio, airconditioning, and other techno gidgets lag behind those in "luxury" cars like MB, BMW, Lexus. You'll worry about parking the car everywhere. You'll be too paranoid to let the valet even park it. (well, they usually let you park it in the front of the place anyway). The cost of maintenance is insanely much higher for an exotic. That is one of the main reasons exotic owners "relatively" do not put lots of miles on their exotics. And the main reason they sell them is when that expensive maintenance is due. Well, the point is, an exotic cannot fill the role of your C63' when you decide to move on to another car. Still believe best choice to move up for most would be a different AMG, an M, an F, or possibly Porsche, Vette. GTR or Porsche Turbo would be the ultimate step up car, if you have no kids. Even better if they are used with at least 2 years of depreciation by the time you buy it. It's always fun to think of the next car you'll buy.

Porsches are known to be reliable cars and a 911 Turbo would be the only fitting replacement for me. I have grown so accustomed to 4 doors and so much trunk space though. My only other choice would be a CLK63 BS.

I heard the maintenance on the gtr is kinda high. Anyone have experience and know what it takes to maintain a gtr. Is it normal like the c63 or is there more to it?

Kids don't require much legroom, they have short legs

While shopping for a daily driver (ultimately picked up my C63) a few months ago, I test drove a 2009 GTR at a dealer. WOW! What a car! Dealer let me take it from 0-100-0 during the test-drive. The DCT was so immediate, much better than our 7 speed torque convertor transmission. You get that same torque monster feel of the C63, but to a bit more of an extreme. Brakes are better in the GTR, as well. At the time this was the fastest, best performing car that I'd ever driven (This includes 430 Scuderia, f430, California, 360 Modena, C6 vette, 911 CS). Until I drove my friend's 2011 911 Turbo S, 2 days ago, the GTR was definitely the fastest. If I did not have kids, the GTR would have been in my in my stable instead of the C63. they are still quite expensive though. A new one I looked at was marked up to 103k, used one I drove was 73k.

Definitely the new M5. 580 HP out of the box with heavy modding potential. Alternatively I am seriously considering a slightly used 911 Turbo. Ship if off to Switzer and deposit $10K and you are looking at a 650 HP beast where you can still tuck the small kids in the back seat if required.

Married with the a third kid on the way but wife is driving an X5 so that helps for the family weekends.

Think big picture. For example, for me, moving to a GTR is not as practical because I have a child seat. For me, moving up would be a car between $60k and 100k, so a Gallardo is out. The new M5, if faster han the current, may be an option.

(I know there is another thread, but It died)
from here in the cheap seats (depreciation is king), you are one of the "more $fortunate$ members". Like you, my S55 is my DD, hobby car, and Sunday driver all rolled in to one, but moving up for me would be only be "up" to a W220 S600, and only if I could find one in the low 30's and be able to find a warranty.

And in college (1981-1986, mountains and snow), my long-time girlfiend had a 1980 or so Tercel. That car was the BEST car. Unstoppable in snow, great mileage, enough room for four students. I loved that car so much I'd give it a Bud Light. No one should *ever* laugh at a Tercel.

I'm in the DD, two-car-seat club (kids are 2 and soon-to-be 4). I have a 2011 Carrera GTS on order. Some have already categorized it as "impractical" and it's definitely no SUV, but I gave up my new C2S for the C63 when our second arrived and now it's time to go back. The fun is worth the hassle.

A 2 year old panamera turbo could fit the profile. I love the car look and I am still amazed on how this car can achieve under 4 sec runs to 60mph. The interior is also much better than the C.

Kind of tired of high performance sedans and SUVs they are boring if you drive slow

But if I do return to spirited driving, I would love to build a "pocket rocket"
Something like VW R32 Bi turbo (in a sleeper version) or a BMW Z4 M
BTW gave my C63 to wifey (summer) and ML63 (winter) also
Cruising around on MB ML 500 (fully loaded) and having a blast with a 2.5 year old wingman, two dogs, 3 pairs of roller blades, 1 scooter, 2 skateboards and a load of kids stuff.

Since you're into stats, the CTS-V is faster than you're current car.
And about the same price...

911 TT or panamera turbo possible. Have two kids in middle school, so C63 will have to "suffice" for awhile!!

I guess you are kind of in the same boat as I am, and I would highly recommend you look into the Porsche Panamera 4S or Tubro for your all-in-one fun and family needs.

Indeed faster but 1. It doesnt sound half as good at any speed 2. There is nothing exciting or sporty about the exterior of the car 3. The couple CTS-V's I've seen around are driven by 50+ year old men (wonder why). What I am trying to say is, the only thing exciting and appealing about the V is the engine.

Jeremy Clarkson mentioned "The CTS-V seems designed by someone who only had a ruler."

OUCH!

I might have considered one if I knew of a way to get into the car without actually having to look at it.

Ditto

Next year my wife and I are buying new cars and since I don't own a C63 yet, that will be my next purchase. She is getting a white Audi S5 because its "pretty". After the C, I will look to a V8 Vantage, GranTurismo S, or a 911 TT. However, thats a long way from now and will probably be smitten by something new and exciting by then.

For the guys that may need a bigger back seat and want C63 performance but dont want to spend E63 money, the 2012 300C SRT8 is going to have 475 HP (but apparently put down around 500 to the wheels) and it'll be using the same 8-speed ZF tranny as the BMW 740i. Grand Cherokee SRT8 and Charger as well...

I think in terms of a compromise car, practicality and fun while maintaining value for money, the C63 is almost unbeatable.

At the end of the day, since I am in a similar situation as you, I would hold on to the C63 for a while longer, and buy a proper family car...a small SUV or a Minivan...like a Honda CR-V, Toyota Highlander...maybe even one that is off lease or slightly used.

The 2 years you hold off on buying a new car would probably cover the cost to buy the economical family car.

In the end, the goal would be to eliminate the compromise that you have to do in choosing a car. After 2 years, you would have the ability to buy the sports car you like...and best of all, you can care for it more since you have a spare car to use on grocery runs and whatnot.
