I have tried just about everything and I have V1s in all my cars.
Just buy a Valentine, and be done.

V1 may not look like the latest, high-tech gadget, but it gets the job done most effectively with its long range sensitivity, arrows, and bogey counter. You can also customize its functionality through the hidden menus...like turning certain functions on + off; I turned X band radar OFF altogether...no need for that. Like someone else said, if it beeps with a false alarm (or when it senses a radar speed sign), just hit the mute button...no big deal.

I think my whistler back in 92 had the x band defeat, not to mention every modern radar detector out there has it.
with the escort there is no need to mute the false alarms as it pretty much does it itself... no interaction is the best with a radar detector

Thanks for all the info guys, It seems like im leaning towards the 9500ix. I really like the gps feature. Getting false alarms would annoy me most of the time, I just wanna know where the real threats are.
I have one main question about the 9500ix...Does it detect threats coming from behind?

Hey, it doesn't matter to ME which radar detector you or the OP use; I just know with the V1, I'm about as protected as I can get (except needing a laser jammer...but that's true w/ all radar/laser detectors)...my Escort Passport is sitting in my home office desk drawer...want it?

No I do not need it.
as for lazy, yes and no... I just don't like to be further distracted when I am driving, usually I am on the phone, surfing the web, texting, watching videos, eating, drinking coffee, listening to the stereo at loud volumes, etc at about 80... I can only do 5 things at once, muting the radar detector would put me over my multi tasking ability... especially when the escort does it for me

^ ^ dude I have 2 escorts, and I will take yours. Lol it would be nice having a radar detector in every single one of our cars. Even the family SUV.
I had a V1 before in the past... in fact I had two. You really need to get use to the sound because it does go off quite frequently. The first V1 was obliterated in a car accident, and I replaced it afterwards. The next one was stolen while at the movies.... in the daytime. I just assume I had bad luck with the the V1.
After reading a review on car and track or some publication I decided to give Passport Escort 8500 or something a shot. The radar has been very solid and awesome ever since. I don't think I have ever received a ticket while in the car with the passport. I still got a ticket in Cayenne though, so thats where that 3rd radar would help
