Replica Wheels R117A rubbing calipers
In order to install winter tires I bought rims: Replica R117A (18x8.5, offset +50), which looks like our AMG 5 stroke wheels and declared as suitable for MB.
Tires were installed at the different shop. During the test drive a mechanic discovered, that front calipers rubbing these rims - internal diameter is too small. I came back to the shop where I bought these rims and they told me that they will call the supplier tomorrow to figure out what to do.
My question is - is there any way to figure out, which rims will be ok with our front calipers and avoid this problem in future?

My current offset is +45 for my winter setup and it BARELY hovers the front brakes ... scary close ... literally millimeters ..
I was told +50 doesn't fit (which seems like what your confirming)

Ouch, rubbing your front calipers? I hope it didn't damaged the paint... or else make them pay for it. I guess you could always use a small spacer if the rubbing is minimal.

Inner surface of a rim has profile like this:
----X____(Outside)
--Caliper
____X----(Outside)
and the place where height is changed has scratches from the caliper. Most likely that the paint of calipers is damaged, on it's top and bottom bumps.
If the rim had offset less than 50, I think it would not touch the caliper, but there will be just few millimeters from it.

Mine have the same profile.
The reason I asked is that when I first put on my winters last fall, I spun the wheel around once. The wheel weight was too thick and hit the caliper. They had to put on more and thinner ones in order to compensate.

I have just contacted the vendor and they are checking with the supplier. What happened in your case? thanks

I work for Fastco. The tolerances of these wheels is very close. There are a couple C63 already running around on these wheels. I believe the OP had one wheel that was slightly out of round.

"The company just called me back 2 minutes ago and I have an answer for the guy on the forums.
The R117A does fit, it is one of the closest wheels that they have but they did confirm to me it DOES Fit.
The case with the client on the internet is that the wheel was actually out of round, and only part of it was touching the caliper by half a rotation. It basically comes down to the tolerances. If a wheel has a 'tolerance' of being plus or minus 0.25", and a caliper has a tolerance of 0.1", well if those two 'bad' parts come together then you have your issue.
He assured me (Guy from Fast Wheels) that he has sold that wheel to several other clients - and even called one to confirm that the wheel does fit without issue, and the client has been on it for 2 months."
That's great customer service =)

Well it's a good idea for a couple of reasons:
- keeps your stock wheels in better shape
- have 4 identical wheels and tires for the winter. This allows for tire rotation.
- much more choices when it comes to winter tires.
- you can do your own install twice a year so save $$$
You can get some pretty cheap winters wheels so at the end of the day it's a pretty good deal.

UPDATE:
The shop did some extra verifications and the front would hit because of the balancing weights where its the most narrow. They will get a "static" balancing done, meaning the put only weights on the back side of the wheel, but in a way that the wheels will still be balanced.

Thanks (and nice to see you on MB). Here are extra details from someone at Perry Auto (great parts shop) in the Montreal area.

Even on the stock wheels, the space between the wheel and caliper is about 2mm. We are also comparing the R132 and R121 to the R117A to see if we gain a bit more room. Everything should be fine on saturday, but if not for any reason ...we will fix your problem.

So it did not look like a wheel was out of round.
Tire Team took my wheels to make pictures and send images to supplier, which was planning to do measurements.
They suggested, if supplier agreed with the problem, to try R121. They are saying that internal bump is shorter compare with 117, and width is 8", not 8.5"
8.5" looks too wide for Blizzak WS60 235x40x18.
I do not have pic with r117 because a mechanic after trying new wheels, installed my old stock wheels back.

Thank you for all the info.
With your info we know that the following wheel will have at least 3mm clearance:

Just ordered R107A in silver. Would have liked gun metal or matte black but not in stock, can always get recoated.
They look pretty similar to Forgestar F14 on the pic.
