Rear diffuser and downforce
Has anyone been able to find real data from wind tunnel testing or from their own real world experience on the improvements in downforce created or reduction in lift of the various diffuser designs out there for the C63? I currently have the Euroteck unit, but still feel that the rear end of the car gets light at 160 - 170 and above. Does the Vorsteiner design offer better high speed stability from reduced lift?
Any thoughts or comments from those who have experimented with different units or have access to wind tunnel testing that may have been performed by the various manufacturers would be appreciated. |
the diffusers for our cars are only for looks, I think... the car need to be low enough(less than 5cm) to have any real ground effect

As far as I know, there is no diffuser out there for the C63 or most other Mercedes that actually is a true functional diffuser. Most diffusers do not create down force, unless it is a true racing diffuser with some sort of wing built into it. Mostly even functional ones only increase high speed stability, and can reduce rear end lift a little bit, but to actually create down force is another thing. If you are truly looking for down force, a large rear wing would help a ton, but then again for the road, it would be quite out of place, a track car, yes, but the wing for you to actually feel down force would sadly make it look like a ricer!:X

The diffuser isnt going to do much for down force.

there is NO "diffuser" on the market for the C63 that provides any downforce whatsoever. In fact, they shouldn't even be referred to as a "diffuser" because it's nothing more than a cosmetic body piece. In fact, due to its design it most likely reduces downforce as it helps reduce drag. If you want more downforce, get a bigger decklid lip like the one Evosport sells for the CLK Black Series.
But be careful...increasing downforce in the rear must be combined with additional downforce up front or else your gonna get some SUPER funky handling above 150mph. |

Thanks for all the input. I may try a decklid spoiler upgrade like the BOCA Design or the Vorsteiner.
