2012 CTS-V or an AMG?

Ok, just saw this recently, and I wanted some opinions in case I'm not thinking straight. For 2012, Caddy is offering a nifty edition of the CTS-V that looks awesome to me. I'd go with the automatic trans, since the manual sports car I have now is awesome, but it's harder than sin to eat a burger while driving. Couple questions -

1) Anyone have experience with newer Cadillac tech? How's the GPS compared to Command / Sync?

2) Is it sacrilege to get an automatic in a car with +550 hp?

3) Any other comments?

TIA.

I haven't driven the Caddy, but I would be surprised it its A/V systems were not miles ahead of the current COMAND. Having said that, it looks like the 2012 C63 will have a much improved system.

And is it a sacrilege to have a 550+ hp car with an auto? You are asking that on an AMG forum?

What is sacrilege is eating a burger while driving. When you are driving, drive. Nothing else. Esp. with 550 HP. Or when I am on the road with you.

I know caddi has come along way from the 70's, but I just can't get the memories of my father's 76 seville out of my head... what a POS that car was.

My friend has one. The gps in the cts-v is rubbish, worse then mercedes. It's not that fast but it's faster then the C63. I raced one with my shelby i smoked him bad.

it really depends on how u like a particular car...
personally i am biased to german vehicles...
i would rather get a 2nd hand 997 tt or gtr over the new cts-v...
the touch screen in the ctsv is quite impressive though, but it's not a phone, i don't need that touch screen...
i love c63

I was just choosing between the C63 PP and the CTS-V coupe. Ended up with the C63 PP. I really like the caddy, test drove an auto and manual. Really liked the car, so much torque...the interior is very nice (except for one you have a pic of above, that is just tacky), nicer than the C63. But I kept hearing owners complain about rattling interior bits, rattling sunroof, and the recaro seats shake and make noise. I couldnt stand if that was happening in my car, some said they didnt have any interior noise like that, but quite a few did. Check out caddilacforums.

also MSN AUTO:

Pros: Smooth acceleration and handling, exterior styling Cons: The interior of this car was an absolute deal breaker. If you do not like squeaks and rattles, then avoid this car ........... on a brand new cts, there was a symphony of squeaks and rattles from the center console, shifter, dashboard, and doors............what a total letdown. Almost hard to believe that this was the 08 north american car of the year. They should have paid more attention to interior quality because the actual ride...

if you just google cts and squeak there are tons of pages! ..pretty disappointing, if not for these issues I prob would of gotten the CTS-V, I like that they are rare.

confused? 0-60 the c63 will beat the gt500 stock for stock 4.0 and 4.4
not sure about the 1/4 mile. my neighbor has both cars and said the c was quicker. as far as the cts-v owned one in 2005 and i know they've come a long way but mine was awful and rattled constantly.

That is actually not that bad, I don't think that Cadillac was fitted with the optional Recaros. Definately I have had much worst seats than the Cadillac's CTS-V, try the seats of a C6 Z06 corvette.
They feel like the seats on the TV series Knight rider with the fagget Hasselhof and his fagget hair and 70's vynil/disco jacket flying in the hair, plain aweful.

Like I said, if you really want to point perhaps at the worst seats on a expensive sports car look no further(C6 Z06)

^ agreed about the seats, but i expect that in a Z06.... A caddilac is supposed to be a luxury car, it shouldnt have these issues.

Cadilliac has been trying so hard to cater to the Captain Kirks that think they want to sit inte USS Enterprise in an 80's Start Trek command center.

Don't make it a space ship, make it a DAMN sports car.

1. Has there been any confirmation other than pictures regarding a Command update for the new(ish) C? And I thought that fixed Command screen was pretty much the same internals as compared to a 2011 / older Command in the C?

2. I will obviously put the burger down once I hit the highway / other conditions demand it; however, I have not been in a single accident yet, and while that record will only stand for so long, I think it does speak to some relatively decent judgment.

Now that you say that, I can definitely see that.

I'd definitely go fully-optioned, but I wonder how the Recaros stack up to the normal C63 seats

This is definitely the main concern - going to test drive & keep doing the hw to figure out how bad the quality really is

You can get the CTS-V in a wagon here in the US.

I keep threatening to go drive one. But given my love for sport wagons I'm afraid of what might happen if I liked it...

^ the recaros are a bit stiff on the bottom, you feel its a firmer seat on your ***. But I liked them, some people HATE them, but they are 13 way adjustable so I hear its just gettting it set to your standards. And the reg seats are very soft and comfy but offer NO lateral support. I did a lot of research and test driving. I would go with the recaros no question.

The ony thing I like is the stitching. The color scheme is terrible, nothing matches.
Yellow + black interior would look nice in a Lambo but not in a CTS-V.

Looks/appearance aside I'd be sold on the Caddy for the simple fact that it doesnt cost an arm&leg to get substantially more HP from it

My good friend traded in his C63 for a CTS-V. While it's quicker than the C63, he told me that his car rattles & squeaks all the time. He took me out in a ride the other day & i can confirm that it makes all kinds of annoying noises. The build quality is very poor, nowhere near as good as MB's. He's had it for about a year.

He also told me that he misses his AMG a lot! lol

Black Diamond edition....you pay $5000 more for paint and "saffron" interior and painted wheels.....

The paint is horrible and way too heavy with the metallic....and that interior with the yellow leather and wood looks like the dressing room from Blades of Glory.....

Just sayin.....

LOL! Also, what's with the cheetah door panels?

I would get the C 63 because it's lighter, number one.

Number two, it's engine is far more impressive. The fact that the m156 can have as much hp as the LSA with just LT's and a tune is pretty sweet.

I think the CTSV's interior would get old real fast. In a couple of years it may be funny looking.

Regarding rattles, I can't imagine a CTSV would be worse than my C63. So, in that regard, you never know how your car will turn out.

you guys are talking about the color of the interior...just get all black, what's the issue. BTW likewise a tune and pulley on a CTSV would walk just about anything as well. The coupe is a sin, but the sedan looks mean.

CTS is extremely fast, I've raced one on the track. Only car from a huge pack that was faster than the C63 on the straight (60-140MPH).

I heard the standard interior looks much nicer than the C63 (not the silly one posted).

I am a rattle freak, any suspension/other noise makes me crazy when it comes to a car. The C63 is really built like a tank. It can handle a beating, something very few companies can claim, talk to the Ferrari guys!

Edge goes to the C63 on this one.
