These events allow you to grow your skills by moving you through run groups as you gain experience. Initially street summer tires are fine but as you get faster you will out drive most street tires and wear them out VERY quickly as well as your brakes.

But, as your skill level increased, wouldn't you wear your brakes a lot as well, considering you would be trying to brake as late as possible which would mean you would be slamming on your brakes as you head into a corner?
I don't know very much about road racing, so just trying to figure out some basics.

I can agree with the part about "lack of self control" but regarding car knowledge, I have to say, I learn more about cars from the Camaro5 site then here.
For example, on that site, tuners provide very technical analysis. It's helpful for owners. Here, things are much more hush hush.

Yea. I'm figuring a full service before after, a set of tires and break pads, and a crap load of gas, sounds like an expencive weekend but I need to get away and let some steam out

Seriously, enjoy!
I'm out of shape, otherwise, I'd beat on one of my punching bags. Probably break my hand if I did it with any force. haha

Mike, you might want to check this site out for track insurance. When your rear end starts to slide in #17 you will be relieved to know that you are covered just in case.

Whats the exact date of the event? I would like to come and meet you guys. Coming from the Porsche community, I've spent alot of time @ Sebring. We are off to Road Atlanta for a PBOC race this weekend.
Heres a great shot from turn 17
