You have to remove the grill in total.
Open hood, remove both side lugs, while pushing the grill in towards radiator and up, the grill will pop out.
Then on the back of the grill you will see the star attached in a plastic ring with finger locks. Rotate and remove star with some force. I got a plastic wedge instrument in there to relieve it...

Then realized I forgot there's a piece that is attached to the hood.
Protip: don't forget the piece attached to the hood.
