Enhancing the stock exhaust

Hey Guys,
I love our stock exhaust but am curious to know what other drivers have done to enhance the stock sound. I have come across various threads referring to h and x pipes, straight pipes and resonator deletes. I don't fully understand how the H/X pipes work or affect the sound.

I would love to get some more power and increase the throatiness of the stock system but do not want any rasp or drone in the cabin. I have searched but couldn't really find any exact answers...thanks in advance for the help!

What state do you live in? Do you have any emissions testing?

I live in New York. We do emissions testing, obviously, so passing that is important.

It is all a matter of how much money you want to spend.
Headers with race cats is the top change for hp/throatyness but that will cost you major bucks.
Switching 2nd cats with straight pipes or X pipes could also work but you are taking a small risk with emissions. I don't think it is a big deal because that is so cheap to change back to stock if you buy the custom made X-pipe.
I am lucky I am in FL and I have removed all cats with downpipes and X pipes. The whole setup is not for the faint of heart but I love it. No drone at all. It is also fully reversible with no cuts needed so you could potentially do this and when you need to pass emissions, install the stock pipes back. It would cost you about $400 for take out and put back.
Be ready for the neighbors to be woken up upon cold start

High flow 2nd cats + x-pipe = most refined approach for cheap/easy HP & sound

You will not be disappointed ...

I'm not too familiar with this neither... what's the difference between 2nd cat delete with x-pipe and high-flow 2nd cat with x-pipe?

I'm in the same boat, looking for exactly what BK63amg is asking about.
Hoping to find something that does not require a tune to keep the CEL from triggering.

I'm looking for mod's for a car that's not even in my possession yet, feeling a little crazy? Yes I am.

Depends on how strict you emissions testing is. I haven't changed anything yet on the C63 but I deleted the center resonator on a C55 and it sounded much better. Doubt there was much of a performance gain. Deleting second cats should not throw CEL as they are downstream of both O2 sensors. If there are straight bolt on options (as suggested herein), that would be the way to go since you can always get back to stock for emissions or any warranty issues. Becare for who you get your parts from as there is a thread on one of the boards regarding a less than reputable parts dealer.

I when from factory 300 cell cats to 200 cell cat on a 966 Turbo. Just passed the smog test in Cali with plenty of room to spare.

By the mod parts first and then you'll have to buy the car
