I was at a dealer recently looking over a 2011 C63, including the egine compartment. At the time, something struck me as different than what my '09 looked like. After some deliberation, I relalized that AMG has done away with the nicely finished silver valve covers and now has some plain black covers that look like cheap plastic instead.

I also noticed that the paint on an E class coupe was not quite as smooth as on the older cars.

Are these indications that MB is following BMW's lead in cost cutting? Or is there a technical reason for the valve cover change?

All I no is the ones on the c350 r cheaper made then on my car
And leak bad at around 90,000 miles
So mayb they fixed it with different 1s
