How do you remove the old eyelid bulbs? I've searched and found a DIY but I'm stuck at the bulb removal step.

Do I have to twist and pull? or pull straight out? The DIY mentioned not to tug on the wires, so I tried needle nose pliers on the orange covers but they won't budge. I'm pretty handy but I'm afraid if I pull too hard something is going to break.

Any help is appreciated.

It's pressure held, so you just pull them out. They're free twisting so try twisting it around to loosen up any debris/dirt/dust that might be stuck there making it harder to pull out.

Is there a DIY for eyelid, trunk light, and plate lights? Was only able to replace the markers, lol. I fail.

for the rear plate lights, check out this thread:

https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...d-cyclops.html

I'm going to borrow his pics for the DIY, hope he doesn't mind.

AZNOptics.com Storefront - W204 AMG-ebl1q.jpg
I undid the top 4 screws with a torx screwdriver, undid the 3 clips directly under it. Slide the plastic piece out and unplug it.

I also i undid the two clips in red under those to give myself some space to reach for the plate lights.

You're going to have to use some force (but not too much) to push the handle porton of the trunk lining towards the front of the car while pulling down to slide it out of the opening. Just becareful in not using too much force as it's just riveted to the lining, and you don't want the plastic to break.

AZNOptics.com Storefront - W204 AMG-wlejm.jpg

Once you have the liner loose, you can reach inside and simply twist two sockets in red out and replace your bulbs. You're going to have to do it "blind" and you will not be able to physically see the sockets. The AZNoptics blubs have to be plugged in in a certain direction, so make sure you test them before plugging them back in to make sure you've plugged them in the right way.

As a note my car was a MY2010 and it didn't have push pins, just some one piece plastic clip, so i was very afraid of snapping them when i was pulling them out. From the pics Rick posted it looks like he actually has push pins which are much easier to remove.

Is there a guide for all this lighting stuff for guys who are late to the LED party?

I just dont understand so many things. The start of this thread helps, but it also leaves me with many questions such as:

what are the 36mm, 39mm, 41mm Festoon LEDs for? where would I use those?
whats the difference between the 1156 & 1157 LED's? why would I use one or the others?
what are the 64111 LED's for? Are those headlight bulbs? and those just go where the normal stock old fashioned bulbs go? Do I have to do any mods?

I guess I could just use an LED 101 or something. Im a little ADD and while there is information out there I find it overwhelming. I just would love a simple, concise guide to LED's in general and our cars specifically. I want to make sure I am getting very clean, very white light and not 'ricing' it up.

HELP!

Here's a quick primer, you can basically split up LEDs into three categories, Wedge, Festoon, and Bayonet. Wedge bulbs are basically flat connectors that get wedged in between voltage clips. Festoon bulbs are double capped bulbs that either get clipped on on both sides or pressure held by both ends. Bayonet bulbs are single cap base that you push in and twist to lock. You can see pictures of the different bulbs on my website www.aznoptics.com to see the differences, but they basically just mean how the base connects with the connector.

Now for your question of what's the difference between 36mm, 38mm, 41mm, etc festoons, basically that's just the width of the festoon. Some festoon bulbs are longer than others, but shares the same design. For your C63 application, the only place that uses a festoon bulb is your rear dome light center bulb which is a 41mm festoon.

Your question regarding 1156 and 1157, those are bayonet bulbs so have a single cap at the base. They look kind of similar to a normal screw on bulb you find in households, except they are not threaded at the base where you continually screw in till tight. They have two little nubs that lock in with a quarter twist in the socket. The different numbering identifier basically describes the configuration of this locking design of the nubs (some are straight across, some are at an offset, etc) and the bottom connector (1 or 2 contact points). For your application, you'll use 1156 bayonets for brake lights, tail lights, and reverse lights. 7507 bayonets for rear turn signals if you don't have OEM LED turn signals already.

64111 are mini bayonets which are the same principle connector type as regular bayonets, but they're just smaller. There's nothing on your vehicle that uses those.

Hope that helps

That does help....a lot. Am I correct in thinking that K's refer more to color than brightness and that whether they are 4300, 5000 or 8000 they are all the same brightness with the light just getting bluer as you slide up the scale?

And do you put LED's in the bi-xenon lights? I'm thinking that's is probably the dumbest question of all (since it's probably a bulb with xenon in it) .....but just in case you do, what type are those?

K = Kelvin which is color temp. The higher it gets, the more blue, then purple it gets. The lower the more yellow, then red it gets. Brightness is Lumen.

You don't want to put LEDs into your low, high, or fogs...basically anything you want to project viewing lights forward. LEDs are great as indicator type lights which are used to inform others where you are or your intentions, but not great (unless you have housing designed to properly project) as projecting lights to illuminate the road. You'd get tons of light scatter if you plug in an H7 LED bulb in. What you're looking for are HID (High Intensity Discharge) bulbs as you already have OEM bi-xenons.

As our Facebook subscribers already know, we've cut over our 194 Wedge LEDs to our new V3 design.

We're constantly exploring new technologies and techniques to present the best possible product out there for you. This new design utilizes a "box" top design will utilize a larger CREE diode and output slightly more lumen (brighter) and give better 360 degree lighting output. The big thing is we've introduced a new high temp resistant non-conductive gel substrate to the resistor component that has a much higher melting point than solder. This will help keep components in place during all but the largest of current surges which results in heat spikes. This is a problem with all aftermarket LEDs on some vehicles where these heat spikes reach the melting point of the solder which causes the resistors to "float" freely and allow gravity and engine/car vibration to cause component shifting. With this gel, everything is held in place until the current surge passes and the solder re-solidifies with everything held in place.

These have already undergone months of live testing from our volunteers and have met with success.

I'll get pictures posted later this week of the updated design.

Sorry, we're out of the HID business due to increased regulations by US Customs and DOT making it illegal for me to import HIDs and subject to seizure and fine. We strictly deal in LEDs only now.
