Question for Button Fiends

So I'm trying to decide whether to fork over the extra cash for Keyless Go on my 2012 order. I've run searches on this, and there seems to be a spectrum of opinions from "it barely works and causes more problems than it solves" to "I will die before I buy another car requiring a key in the ignition." I'm a tad tentative about it, since part of me suspects keyless is just one more thing that can go wrong with the car.

Anyone have any sense if the option has much impact on resale? If you don't get keyless, do you have to turn the key in the ignition to fire up the car old school, or do you insert the key then hit a button for start up anyway? I forgot to check this when I test drove the car. Thanks.

Once you go Keyless, you can never go back. Get it! (Only annoyance I have with it was that it would keep locking the doors and beeping three times when I would wand wash it with the key in my pocket. So, I disabled the audible door lock alert...)

If you keep the key in the car the doors will not lock or beep. I do this when I wash my car. I was worried about locking myself out at the car wash so I took the little key out just in case. I hated how the car would lock and unlock each time the water touched the door handles. Other than this, keyless go is a must have.

I don't have it and don't want it. When I was at the dealer last, there was a guy there with his SL. His key had gone bad and they were having to reprogram it. The problem with that was it could take anywhere from a few minutes to all day....

I have it and I also agree about the washing annoyance
I usually put the key in the garage and the distance disables this.
I never thought of leaving it in the car

I'm 50/50 on keyless go, it's cool I guess and it seems all the marques are going this route.
I'd rather have the grand in my pocket honestly, but I'm not losing sleep over it--in the grand (no pun intended) scheme of things, what's another $1000

That is a much better solution.

I like my keyless go. Took me a while to get used it. Think I can still turn a key.

Haha...from the thread title I thought you were an avid fan of Jenson Button and why not.

Funny, I was thinking it was a Hamilton fan who was going to remind the Button people that Lewis regularly smokes him.

Lol, me too.

I like my Keyless-Go, i would probably get it in my next car. That being said, i wouldn't base my next purchase on it.

should have made a poll...

my vote is keyless go... the c63 was my first experience with it as well and it's really convenient... and even more so if you're a woman or have woman drive the car sometimes... i still catch myself sometimes walking up to my dads car and forgetting that i have to use the keys that i put in my pocket

Thanks for the input everyone. Great food for thought.

If you forgo keyless go, do you start the car the old-fashioned way, with a twist of the key in the ignition, or is it still a push button start, only requiring the key in the ignition? I thought it was the former (hence the topic title) but wasn't totally sure. Thanks.

Btw, photos of the new C63 coupe from the NY auto show are popping up on the auto news websites:

keyless go = push button start
no keyless go = turn key

I see that you have both a C63 and E63. How do they compare?

IAA-C63,

The E63 is more plush, smoother more compliant ride, long distance hauler. The C63 is more edgy, skittish under full throttle, stiffer ride, less luxurius. They are two diiferent animals. The E63 is better for long distance driving, as were the C63 is better for short distances, if you to have some fun. Both are great cars, but diffrent in many ways.

Thanks for the info.

I had considered the E63, but local dealers didn't have one for a test drive, I thought a smaller car might be more fun, and I didn't mind saving about $30K.

Based on your comparison, it sounds like I picked the right car for me, especially given that nearly all of my driving is local (though I'll be making my first 2-3 hour trips next week, and looking forward to driving through the mountains of western VA).

As far as the C63's ride, it's definitely on the stiff side. I generally like it, and it's not an issue at all on smooth roads, but I wouldn't want to go stiffer, so I'm glad I didn't get the performance package.

If you have keyless go you have the option of removing the start/stop button and inserting the key and starting the car the traditional way.
I have to admit though keyless can annoy you when washing car if the key is close by as it keeps locking/unlocking.

My Infiniti has the keyless go feature as standard and I love it. Feels like a step back to have to fish the fob out of my pocket, insert it and turn to start the C63. Of course, once it roars to life all is forgiven!

Chiming in from Aust where Keyless Go is virtually standard - would I pay an extra $1600 or thereabouts in order to get it? Probably not. Do I like it?? Yes. It does take a little while to get used to it but I am really enjoying the convenience of it now.

gotta pay for convenience....

it's not just about not having to pull the key out and putting it in and turning it... there are other features that can be overlooked and all while the key is in your pocket

you can walk up to any door and unlock it by sticking your hand in the handle... you can also arm/lock the car from any of the 4 doors.

opening the trunk by pulling the lever... no need to unlock it first with the key, or press the trunk release button on the key

on a nice day when i have all the windows down and i'm listening to music and need to fill up, i first press to button to turn the engine off... then without pressing the brake pedal, i press the button again and it will turn the music back on and not start the car... i can then get out of the car and fill up and the keys are still in my pocket... i believe after a certain amount of time, 10-15 minutes, everything will shut down again...
