Best Radar/Laser Detectors?
#51
I love my Valentine V1. It's saved me on several occasions but if you encounter a po po with a Laser you're pretty much screwed. (The one ticket I've had (knock on wood) since I got my V1 two years ago came from a laser). The V1 picked it up but it was too late.

seriously? You really don't need to go out of your way to really use it though. You just plug it in, suction it on and let it just beep so you dont get caught speeding...did you not like it or something?

Had the 9500ci installed approx 2 years ago. First unit was defective. While waiting for the new one to come in, ran the 9500xi on the windshield and for some time after the new 9500ci was installed. The 9500xi outperformed the 9500ci in terms of radar detecting range(especially around bends Rt 95N at exit 28 RI heading into Mass). I eventually had the 9500ci pulled - why? Because I got tagged with laser on the CT turnpike near New London. CT troopers have only been using laser guns for the last two years. The trooper was "nice enough" to show me my speed - matched up exactly. My 9500xi in the windshield(until V1 figures out GPS and red light cameras) has performed well. Looking at possibly the Blinder M47 for laser. However, I've heard of reliability issues with the Blinder.

THE LI, dual or quad head is all the shizzle and can BOTH JTG and JFG MOST lidar guns currently used. Just don't get caught in those states that disallow them. The latest processor on the unit is fast, can handle multiple LI heads and can be turned off quickly after the JTG, so they can get a lock after you turn it off and you put on the clamps. The guy who owns LI USA drives a C63.

I think the arrows accomplish both, frankly.
When I hear the detector go off, I look at 3 things - 1st the arrows to tell me what direction to look with my eyes, 2nd the signal strength (which I can tell audibly if its increasing or steady or decreasing) and 3rd how many bogeys it's spotting.
My brain can process all that information in a second and, with 99.9% accuracy, determine if I need to slow down, or its nothing to worry about.
Without the arrows, I'm missing a key piece of information ,and I do NOT want to slow down and wonder every time my detector goes off.

curious...did the ci have the shifters installed? no laser yet where i live, no cameras, and no speed traps...i drive 16 miles roundtrip daily...no need for the gps. i have the 9500xi and it's awesome but i get tired of taking it off the windshield and back on a couple times a day. thinking about the qi45...anyone have experience with this detector? thanks, john

The shifters on the Ci are almost worthless. You're better off getting the L.I. and using the Ci in conjunction with it. Note as well that the mounting of any laser device is essential to its proper operation and success.
If I were looking for a windshield unit, I'd go with the Belscort Redline or the Valentine 1 (its like the same argument of which is better, the M3 or the C63??). As for remote mount, the 9500 Ci or the new Bel STIR Plus remote unit which performs better than the Ci for less money. For Lidar, the Laser Interceptor for sure................

All that to say that laser jamming is on top of my to do list. Thanks to the previous posts - I'm seriously looking at the LI.

One month or so into having the Escort Passport 9500 xi and it is AWESOME. It has GPS connection to detect all redlight intersections and speed traps. It gives plenty of warning and puts speed traps into memory. The other cool thing is it goes off loud then adjusts volume according to the noise in your car. So on a quiet drive, it doesnt continue to warn you really loud after the initial loud warning. It has a mute button for when you recognize warnings and can mute the alarm because you are familiar with the alert. The unit is well made with volume controls and 3 modes including one for highway.
So thumbs up for me so far...

I'm just about convinced to get an Escort, but I noticed that they have several models, some of which are more expensive than the 9500ix:

Sure the 9500ix is the one to go with?
Edit: I just called Escort and the rep steered me towards the 9500ix, so I went ahead and ordered it. I actually got it through Amazon, since that gives me free two-day shipping, their price is $13 lower than getting it direct, and Amazon is an authorized seller, so no issues with warranty, etc.

Greetings Gents, great discussion here...
Just to let you all know ACG carries both the escort and Laser Interceptor line... the Laser Interceptor can also be piggy backed with Valentine 1 radar detector.
Let me know any questions you guys might have.
