Launch Control

I was wondering what is the best way to launch the car and in what mode.

I've been playing around with my boys m3, and the 2011 model has some serious launch control capabilities built in.

Anyway, the obvious holding of the break and then accelerating is known.

What do you guys recommend in terms of the best launch and in what modes.
(in terms of traction)

Depends on several things.

Are you talking about at the track. In that case, which tires would you be using.

On the street, again, depends on the tires and the kind of run you want to do (i.e., do you want to roast the tires, get them warm, then launch (which I've never done on the street) or just launch without doing a burnout

Also depends on whether you have an LSD in your car.

But, generally, I would say put the car in D1 (either Sport traction control or ESP off) brake stand and get the rpms up to about 1200-1400 then roll into the throttle gently until you feel enough traction and then mash the gas pedal.

It's really a nice feeling when you get a clean launch on the street, but it's hard to be consistent, especially if you don't have an LSD.

Unfortunately, on the street, you can't just mash the gas from a break stand, because there isn't enough traction.

That's why I roll around on DR's. Much easier to control, although
it still takes a little skill to keep the DR's from spinning.

Especially when your car traps 122+mph.

thank for the response,

i am not talking about the track. Simple scenario when stopping at a red light with another car. I've noticed with traction off, i am slipping or sliding. With traction on you need to very gradually press it without it doing some crazy jerking around. Tires are stock, p-zeros. Also does it make a difference if i am in sport or traction completely off?

thanks

There is not a big point of having a regular launch control on the C63 car with the big N/A engine. This engine makes soo much torque at low rpms that virtually it will make the wheels spins instantly pass 1500 rpm.

The gas pedal is very touchy and when you hit the accelerator you receive an avalanche of torque. I don't think there is much you can do to it.

On a total different end of the spectrum are the M-3 with thier $-hi-ty torque and hp at 1000000000000rpms. They don't have much of a problem because the power output is more lineal so it climbs and climb as you get closer to red line. That is your answer.

This is a good point. With ESP off, your aim should be to get the most aggressive launch without effecting tire spin. This is tricky and would need to be practiced. Even with an excellent sensitivity to the throttle (which I've only managed a number of times) the initial part of the launch will not feel very aggressive. But, gradually adding more throttle as traction permits will soon result in the gobs of torque this engine makes being trasnsferred to the ground.

With ESP on, the goal is to beat the intervention of traction control which cuts in rather quick. This is difficult for me, personally.

ESP in Sport is a good medium but again, you have to beat the intervention of traction control.

In all three modes the goal is really the same: get that throttle just right.

Just try esp sport when you race in Traffic signal ( Because tire spin ) But if you have semi slick tire Same as Michelin Sport Cup or Nitto 555 take ESP OFF
Because you will have advantage thetire will not spinand the RPM from 1700-2000
This is what i do and I suggest you at all use Manuel it easy and better then Sport Mode
you will have 2second or more when you change gear better then the sport mode
That what i think and that's what i did all time

Also when you in sport mode D1 esp sport when you race the change from gear 1 - 2 it will not complete to 7000rpm and change maybe it will change from 5000rpm or 6000rpm
that's what i noticed

Thats what i suggest you to do i hop that help you
