First time at the drag strip - need help
Hey guys,
Tomorrow night I'll be running 1/4s at Englishtown. This is going to be my first time on a legit drag strip and I was hoping I could get some pointers on how to properly launch this car.
Should I have TCS in sport or off?
Should I have the trans in S or M?
What RPM should I launch at?
Thanks in advance.

It'll be challenging to get it off solid. I would do a few runs in s mode traction off. Get a feel for it u can load the converter a bit but really won't be able to mash the peddel to the floor.. Just don't be nervous everyone had a first time.. And everyone has done f'ed up stupid things.. Get down the track safe

There is talk about reseting the ecu by unhooking the battery for a while.. I just like to beat the snot out of it the day of the track make sure you hold it down allot.. As long as you get 5-6 runs itll be fine.. Try m mode it gets up there quick but it never hurts to try.. With all the things going threw your head then shifting it's a bit overwellming at first

ugh... Street tires...
M mode 100%
Slow roll out with more and more pedal avoiding the tires breaking loose as much as possible. Soon as you hit about 5K RPM you should hammer full throttle and shift at 6K RPM. Shift to 2nd and keep her straight.. Sport mode first. Then for full off after you get used to it.
The track prep and the warm day will help those Pzero's stick though.
Good luck and have fun. Its a private rental you will get way more than 6 runs. Beat the **** out of it on the way to the track. Get there early and let it cool down. Bring lots of ice.

Yes, without Drag Radials you will just spin if you do anything else. Your going to have to ease it out of the hole.
Check out this video.. It will give you a little sneak peak to what it looks and feels like..![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

The masters have already weighed in, so here's the newb approach.
- TCS off for the burn out
- Then switch to TCS sport for when you run (your tail can get a little lively with street tires and heavy foot - and sport will keep you in the safe zone)
- Set your transmission to Sport and paddle down to S1 (the car will determine the optimal shift point - but will hold the gear until redline, whereas in pure manual mode the limiter can creep up on you very quickly)
- TCS off for the burn out

thanks guys! i appreciate the pointers...hopefully i wont embarrass myself out there today with horrid times but im using this as more of a learning opportunity...riding out with best friend and cousins (C6 Grand Sport and 2012 GT-R) so we'll be putting down a lot of power.

How many runs does it take for the ecu/tcu to reach it maximum potential? I went to the track once, but only had 3 runs and it was decent. I felt the car had more power left in it. On my way to the track I was just cruising and my car is a daily driver so I drive mostly in traffic.

Good points. You could try in S1 as well. In my experience it helps to short shift 1st gear when on streets. In S1 it wont short shift unless you tell it to and then its slow to act anyhow.
Just try out all sorts of different methods and have fun. Its a learning expereince. Its going to be 85 degress and high humidity. No one will be setting any records thats for sure.

Englishtown blows because the most runs I ever made at a Test-N-Tune
event was 4. Normally, you will only get 3 which is why you need to beat
the snot out of the car on the way there.

it to minimize wheel spin.

ok guys - so last night was a lot of fun. Launching the car was a tricky process, I kept ESP OFF and tried S auto, S manual and full M mode to similar results. I don't really understand why my trap speeds vary but my ETs are all so close. When I shifted manually, my trap speeds were always higher - why? Also, how do I correct this times? (I don't understand the formula)
Thanks for all your help in advance. I'm not sure if i should be happy with these times or not, I thought our cars were much quicker in stock form.
I will post pics of my slips when I can but here are the stats from last night:

How was your traction
How was your traction
Launching was tricky in first gear (I bounced off the limited a couple times) but the track seemed prepped pretty well and my tires felt sticky to the touch. The tires felt like they hooked up around 30MPH and it was pretty smooth sailing from there.
All in all it was fun, i'm really hoping I can break into the 12.4-12.5 range completely bone stock...do you think this is possible on stock tires?
