Ya know, I am not sure this is an issue with just the K&N's right? I thought I read where someone else had used a different brand and had the same issues.

I find it hard to believe it's the actual filter causing this issue. Yes it flows more air, but not THAT much more. Can any of the tuners chime in here and tell us if they have had it on a dyno where this issue has occurred and what did the AFR's say? Can they confirm that it is leaning it out? If so, can they adjust the fuel table?

Sometime the oil that is contained within the K&N filter coats the MAF sensor, could this be the reason for the CEL?

Yuill... I guess it could, which would give the MAF false readings. But I would think it would take a WHOLE bunch of oil to do this, wouldn't it? Why don't other cars that use MAF sensors have this same issue, though?

I do not have any experience with these cars, but I have had quite a few FI cars that use MAF sensors and never heard of this issue before.

For the OP, or anyone that has had this issue, did the CEl code say it was the MAF sensor or does anyone have the code it throws? I'm just wondering if this could be an o2 problem, that is being diagnosed as something else. Please understand, I am not trying to discredit anyone or dispute anyone else's findings, I am just trying to understand this so we can figure out how to fix it.

Haven't found out what code it is, I don't have a scanner, but people that have had the same problem said "running too lean" codes were thrown out.

BTW, what kind of x-pipe do you have? How do you like the sound? Any vid?

I'm also thinking about getting an x to delete the seconds cats, and also deleting the resonators. Any CEL from it? lol

You can go to any Autozone and they will scan it for free. They can even clear it for you as well. I bought a scanner there and has been an invaluable tool in the past few years. I'd love to know the code it throws.

As for the x-pipe, I pm'd you so I don't get this thread off track. But no CEL lights as of now from the x-pipe and I've had it for a couple weeks now.

It certainly could be. But isn't the 1/2 to 1 hp subjective gain in power well worth the risk?

You should always take the negative cable off first. FYI

Auto parts stores do not formally offer (and should not by law, apparently) free scanning services in CA. In CA the scanning of a car's ECU is considered a auto mechanical service and thus needs an invoice and blah blah blah.

That's what I was told from every auto parts store I've asked this about.

K&N has in the past discountinued filters for certain models of cars as they would cause CEL or fail. I had a K&N on my 993 that ripped at the edges about every 1,000 miles. After three warranty replacements from K&N, they sent my money back and two stock filters. They discontinued the filter shortly thereafter.

Put the stock filters back in or try different ones like AFE Pro Dry-S filters.
I have had my K&N's for about 7k-8k with no problem.

what need to do is clear the code, see if it comes back with the K&N. If it does, i would clear the code and then i would put the stock back in, and see if it comes on or not. Then you know if it is a filter issue or not.
