adding an amp question
adding an amp question
So I want to add a little oomph in the trunk. Just something small and I found it, but I read somewhere that someone said there is a power source in the trunk? Is this true? Or do I need to run the power leads up to the battery? Also, what is everyone using for their remote turn-on power?
Well. the power is not going to be an issue. What I heard the problem is the wiring which I heard is fiber optic weird stuff (that is what I have been told by the dealer).
I haven't seen the wiring but I would like to assume that at least the speakers have conventional wires going to the coil and if that is the case you can do a high input signal converted to low input signal connector(RCA)directly from one of the rear speakers.

The problem with high output to line level converters, is you end up with a dirty signal and crappy sound quality.
As for the use of fiber, that will most likely not be an issue, as the audio from the head unit would be at line level to the stock amp, and then out to the speakers, it makes no sense to use fiber for audio, as audio is analogue, and fiber is digital, so it would require a two DACs to convert from analogue to digital, transmit, digital to analogue. This makes absolutely no sense.
I believe the fiber is communication only, from the various subsystems within the vehicle that communicate with the comand unit.

DOH! LOL, guess I should know my car better than this. Thanks.
and I hope I never do.
