Cory at kleeman knows his stuff and has exceptional customer service. You are in good hands. Every car is different when you tune it, so expect that it will take a couple Tory's to get the Ecu happy.

Final update this incident. After another 9 days, got car back and it is running great. The sent ECU back to Kleeman for a stock tune, it ran well with stock tune which convinced Kleeman that they needed to look at their software. Built an upadated tune "file," then re-flashed with K-2. Car is running they way it should. Significant difference over stock (K-2 tne with Kleeman short tube headers). Was going to go to MIR but hurricane Irene had other plans.

Cool, glad to hear it worked out.

Just wondering, why did you go with Kleeman versus the other tuners?

Primary reason was Funktion Auto was local in the DC area, they did all the shipping and installing. He recommended Kleeman over RennTech, better experience. So I trusted. In the end, Walid at FunKtion (owner) backed me up and ensured Kleeman got the tune right. Going over to FunKtion was a mistake for me, Porsches and Ferraris in the small show room, race cars in the shop, parked out front customer cars Audi A-8L with W12, Porsche Panamera S4, 2011 Porsche GT3 RS, Audi S5, etc. Was like crack to me. Overall despite the pain in the rear, I'm satisfied.....for now.

So, you would say your experience with Funktion Auto was good? That's the shop I was considering too since they had done a MHP install for another C63 (listed on the website).

I think the shop is very good. Walid (owner) heavy into all things German. Daniel is the shop manager, young and very knowledgable. They aren't cheap, but for me it was important to have someone who would do the work (the headers required welding). I asked about the other tunes, they steered me to Kleeman. I can tell you that the car is driving very much stronger than stock. I did't dyno it, but it feels like almost as much an increase in power from stock as it did when I went from my C55 to C63. In reality, I might have 65-70 more hp and 35-40 more lb/ft of torque. Other tunes seem to offer little more, and long tube headers are probably good for another 10 or so hp (I went short tube). Call Walid and tell him Leon recommended. The only down side (other than the soap opera) was that I live 90 miles away from the shop. Good luck and let me know.

I'm just curious, if you didn't ask the tuner about the details of the "TCU flash" he would have kept the higher price?

My problem with a "Ship us your ECU" is this:

On my E55, I had a baseline tune loaded from another E55 which had the exact same modifications I had: Pulley + Headers (Stage I). This was a custom dyno tune, and in theory, should have been pretty close. Fact is, it was way off. All maps had to be manipulated, and from the flash to where we ended up, I gained 34HP and 56TRQ.

There were also some lean areas, and some very rich areas.

I do not understand how a tune can be effectively accomplished without the car, or minimally the motor and ECU.

There are so many factors and being a hand built motor, variances and even sub parts may change slightly.
