The New 5.5 Litre Twin Turbo AMG V8
Whilst placing my order for the new C63 AMG Coupe Black Series (bit of a mouth full...), and having a nice lengthy test drive in an AMG SLS, I also got the chance to sample the Twin Turbo V8 in the CLS63 AMG.
My worries that it would be muted in comparison to our beloved 6.2 were dispelled as soon as it started up. The same angry bark and rumble.
Once on the move you would never tell that this engine has a couple of blowers attached to it. Just seamless effortless grunt with no hint of turbo lag anywhere.
But what made it impressive was the the way the extra torque over the 6.2 atmo engine made a large car feel very lithe and nimble with instant urge from low revs.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the 6.2 engine to bits and wouldn't have it any other way in the C or SLS, but when I feel the need to move up to a larger hot rod (E63, CLS63 or CL63) I won't be disapointed with the new engine.

Grats on the Black Series order.

Thanks man. I just couldn't let the Black pass me by....!
You will not be dissapointed with that CLS. For big car it really hustles and that turbo motor is just perfect. Superb interior too....!

I'm thinkin the same thing....
I love the E63 but scared they're going to do a facelift in a year and half....plus it represents an older body design
The CLS is taking charge as the lead vehicle for Mercedes design going forward....you can see it when the new SL and S class come out....you can already see it in the new CLK
There is only $3k difference between the E63 and CLS63 so picking will be tough...gonna leave it up to a Performance Weekend at Mt Tremblant to decide
But man does that CLS63 look hot in pics....

w211 E-AMG lasted from 2003 to 2009, IIRC... if that timeframe is still logical and relevant, the w212 will be due for replacement somewhere around 2016. Yes, it might get a facelift in 2013 or so, but those usually are fairly minor... and the body design doesn't typically change much (if at all).

2. Good luck with the BS order. Looking forward to pics and a review down the road.

2010 is old, from a body/chassis standpoint? isn't that when the w212 E63 first arrived?

CLS63 is way more edgier in design but might be a bit more chubby....
Gotta drive them both, ***** out, to make the call

The next generation S-Class will not look like either the CLS or the E. It is a much more organic car, even moreso than the F800.

Hey Miro, good to see you on here again and would be awesome to race again with you in Mont Tremblant. Just checked the price for CLS63, it is 3K more than the E63. I haven't tested both these cars but the smart money is on the CLS in my opinion. No lie, I am eyeing this car and few others as well at the moment.

And, IMO, the smart money is on the E 63 estate!

Racing around Mt Tremblant was incredible...planning on doing it again this fall....
Loving the CLS too but the factory wheels are horrible (just saw a CLS63 in the showroom at Mississauga Mercedes)
I dont think youre gonna see any "trunk money" discounts until next summer on a 2012 E63...they're not even in showrooms yet
Plus i dont think $99k is doable for a performance pack car (which will be a must)

There is a long and boring story behind the user name...!
I can't wait myself. Handing over a deposit and getting a reciept/order copy simply saying "C63 AMG Coupe Black Edition" on it was a special moment to be savoured. Now the waiting begins....!
I promise there will be loads of piccies to come....

my wife (is from Toronto btw and has taken Skip Barber, drives better than me) and I have driven both On the track and street and their isj no comparison in terms of total experience. The CLS is the beginning of the luxury line, goes like stink, handles deceptively well, and has better components than the E. Be careful that is first year of production. If i could have only the C or the E, on the other hand, would save the $ and get a C over an E.

I have driven both the new E63 and CLS63, without a doubt in my mind. I would go with the CLS63, cleaner design, outstanding interior, not a C Class made over. The quality of the interior is first rate. Handles like stink on....well you know for such a heavy car. I think that it's brillant. I would certianly buy one.

I am moving from '08 C63 to '11 E63 in a couple of days. I love the new CLS63, but I found a nicely optioned E63 and negotiated 15k off sticker. They are delivering from the Northeast on Wednesday and I cannot wait. If you look around and find a high volume dealer, you can find a deal. Though not like last summer with the killer trunk money. Good luck as you cannot make a wrong decision.
