Sometimes I feel we are off the radar. Nothing a quick engine rev cant resolve. If you wanna race in this car on the street you have to make it known. Pull up next to someone and give it a good 4K rev. That should do it.
i did that once when they pulled up next to me... afterward, they slowed down and never came back next to me... unfortunately, it doesn't always work.

I enjoy watching lesser cars submit before my beast. down shifting from 3rd to 1st to pull up alongside a NA 997 cab at a light and watching the driver's expression wilt is half the fun with this car!

These days most high end cars are so damn fast its nearly impossible to reach their full potential on the street. 'fun runs' usually come down to which driver is going to do something stupid first and scare off the other. People that can afford nice cars usually know this and chill out.

I use my C63 as a DD to work car, so my excitement with the car usually consists of rapid freeway passes and occasional "long, fun" route home. I drive the car in C mode automatic about 75% of the time. It sure is fun ben I get the throttle blips going in manual mode though. One time I wanted to se how the car would do with some "sportier" cars as I brought it out on a great "driving road" with a trio of Ferrari buddies ( a 430 Scuderia, a 430 coupe, and a 430 spider). The car has all the raw acceleration and torque to close any gaps at a whim. However, it really struggles in going from high speeds into the turns. You can really feel the high center of gravity and you will really notice the amount of force and abuse that we are putting on our C63 tires. However, the c63 is much easier getting up to speed and even feels more stable getting over 130 mph than my Ferrari. All of this with satellite radio, heated glove-like fit seats in plush napa leather, and well sized back seats. Not a bad place to be in, IMHO.

Agreed! That makes total sense...but everyone likes to open up and boogies sometimes!

Now that I have both a C63 and a 997S cab, I know better than to challenge a C63 to a drag race when driving the 997. But the C63 driver should think twice about trying to follow the 997 through really fast corners. The C63 is a bodybuilder dressed in a nice suit, whereas the 997 is an athlete dressed in sports attire.

Yeah, But there better be an "athlete" behind the wheel also then.

Sure, I'm assuming capable and equal drivers. Or one could say that a somewhat less capable driver will be able to keep up with a C63 in the twisties when driving a 997.

Same here, I get very few takers.
I do get a lot of looks at my p31 binders, but that's about it.
The Subaru and Fast/Furious group give me the most looks and the same skidadle/weaving with their coffee can exhaust tip rattling away!

I do see young boys peering out of their mom's minivan and they point and give thumbs up--not sure if they know what it is, but I think all of the video games help young boys identify cars.
I had Matchbox cars instead!

For everyone that posted in this thread I have four words, High Performance Drivers Education. HPDE's are weekend track events at road courses all over the country. Much better suited for AMG's than autocross, these events let you really drive your cars in a manner not possible on any streets in a much safer environment. I laugh when I hear the street racer crowd put down track events as too risky? After a couple of weekends, you will appreciate your car more than ever and realize just how well it keeps pace with cars of a sportier heritage. Modified with tune, headers and some wider, stickier rubber and you will probably run the quickest laps in your run group. Back on the street you won't be tempted into anything stupid because YOU already know the answer.

Personally the fun of running at speed with someone is tempered by the horrible pain in the *** a Racing ticket would be. First the cars get towed to impound. Then you get to go to court a couple of times, hire a lawyer and weeks later when you think you've got this damn thing over you find that every car you own has had the insurance jacked up 20-50% or cancelled. In my case, that's 9 cars. None of them have cheap insurance to begin with.

Oh the fun...

All that and the pain of running into a tree at speed, or the pain of knowing, for the rest of your life, that you are responsible for an innocent person's death.

To actively seek this is immaturity at its worst heights.

Sure makes the couple hundred dollar entry fee and a little more for a weekend track insurance premium seem like a bargain by comparison.

I'll have to keep my eye out for this happening in the tri-state area...haven't heard of this before but it sounds ideal!

Join a car club that has some focus on driving events. There are dozens of them in every population center and you can get your need for speed fulfilled.

If you can't find a club, start one and rent a parking lot on weekends. You can often rent cones from your county or municipality till you can afford your own. But be prepared to replace a few every weekend. When I lived in Illinois the county arranged the purchase of hundreds of cones at their discount for our club.
