C63 factory lug bolt size and length
Did some research...
Found:
14mm X 1.5 X 1" (25.4mm) for C63
14mm X 1.5 X 1.1" (27mm) for regular C-Class
McGard's web site application guide claims it's 1." (25.4mm) thread length for all W204 Cs.
Some eBay sellers claim it's 1.1" (27mm) thread length isn't for C63 or 1" (25.4mm) thread length for C63 application.
Looking to get a set of Gorrila 20-bolt wheel lock kit. Can anyone help me find the right thread length?

The MB dealer check the parts system for me and gave me 21mm for regular C-Class and 30.7mm for C63. I went to the dealer and measured the lug bolt off a 2009 C63 at the dealer and got 27mm thread length too. Weird... Didn't have a proper tool to measure the ball seat size tho...

tread length is 27mm, M14mm x 1.5, hex 17mm, ball seat <- stock c63 spec bolts
dealers are crazy.
last time i had a loosen tpms sensor, so i took my car to get a fix. they said it's an aftermarket remote control for my kw v3.
you measured it right.
someone also used 25mm shank, and it worked. as long as the shank is not over 27mm then it's safe.
28mm might work too, but i can't confirm on that.

Are they really R14 ball seat?
Interesting,... but wrong!
While many M14x1.5 threaded lug bolts have R14 ball seat,... including some Mercedes,... most Mercedes with M14x1.5 threaded lug bolts now use smaller R13 ball seats,... including the 2003 SL-Class (230) and the newer C-class (W204)
Mercedes SL-class (230) uses:
M14x1.5 thread, R13 ball seat, 26.7mm shank, 17mm hex with R13 Ball Seat,... not R14!
These wheels came from SL-class,... These 18 inch Turbine wheel,... aka Mercedes-Benz AMG 18" multi-spoke "Style V" wheels are drilled for R13!
- 8.5J x 18 ET 30 (B6 603 1111)
- 9.5J x 18 ET 33 (B6 603 1112)
Note: Mercedes wheel also have another part number starting with "A" as well,... one of these will be stamped on back of wheel.
Think about it,... why would Mercedes place AMG R14 drilled 18" wheels and on SL-class that uses lug bolts with R13 ball seats,... if Mercedes did that there'd be wheel vibrations, lug bolts breaking and wheels flying off everywhere!
This official RAD dealer might have these wheels confused with the same styled 19" Turbine wheel,... aka Mercedes-Benz AMG 19" multi-spoke "Style V" wheels which are drilled the larger R14 for S-Class (140, 220) & CL-Class (215, 216).
- 8.5J x 19 ET 43 (B6 603 1117)
- 9.5J x 19 ET 43 (B6 603 1118)
Interestingly,... the only Mercedes that uses R14 ball seats are the CL-Class (215), M-Class (from 07), Maybach & S-Class (140, 220),.... all uses M14x1.5 thread, R14 ball seat, 45.0mm shank, 17mm hex lub bolts on their alloy wheels. But on these Mercedes, their steel wheels use M14x1.5 thread, R13 ball seat, 26.7mm shank, 17mm hex with smaller R13 ball seat!
d1no,.... easy check,.... place that basically R13 size American dollar coin with the indian woman carrying a baby into the ball seat of the wheel and check. By any chance would you have a Canadian Toonie ($2 coin) which is closer to R14 or find some other coin with a radius of 14mm. Filling the ball seat of the wheel with Play-Doh would help,... then use the coin to scoop it out and seeing what's left, you'll see whether the ball seat of the wheel is R13 or R14.
Midnight Kompre,... getting the right thread and ball seat are very important! Shank size a bit less so,... but if I'm looking for 27mm shank,... I would rather settle for a bit longer than a bit shorter,... remember shank length determines how deep these bolts go into your car,.... usually on Mercedes, we're talking about 11mm for that 6 full rotation rule,... Surely you can go a bit deeper without damaging the rear parking brake mechanism,... how much deeper I really don't know and I'm not going to test that on my car!,... but I'm thinking you'd have to go at least 10mm extra to do damage,... 19mm extra will cause damage.
I'm wondering if RAD do custom orders for lug bolts?

Yes, r14.
stock bolts: RAD Bolts M14x1.5x27 R14 (RAD4227)
stock locking bolts: RAD Locking Bolts M14x1.5x27 R14 (RAD2223)
if you don't believe me, you should get the r13. however, i 100% guarantee that you will regret with the r13.

Guys
I bought a stock black hollow head lug bolt which turned out to be the lug bolt with 14MX1.5X30.7 in description in the parts system, the thread length is 27mm too. I believe the black bolt is for Canada's limited Affalterback Edition C63 (for the 797 wheels). Same size as the lug bolts equipped on the car which the dealer gave me the specs of 14MX1.5X21 pulled out of the parts system. The dealer measured it and the regular silver coated lug bolt with a caliper tool, their ball seats are both 25mm diameter.
R12 12mm radius = 24mm diameter
R13 13mm radius = 26mm diameter
R14 14mm radius = 28mm diameter
Are you really sure it's really R14 ball seat?!
I'm more confused now..........

So that means they are r12.5 ball seats?
nice information, it must be wrong to use r14 according to what you have found out then.
but my car has been using r14 since the day one it was assembled, there's no problem so far!

r12.5 ball seats? Ugh... I dunno. Maybe R13? Not sure either.
But have you measured your own bolt yourself?
I'm going to get a caliper tool and measure it again myself. If you'd like, I can unload some photos later.
Black bolt part #: A 000 990 83 07 (Description: 14MX1.5X30.7 Code 797)
Silver bolt part #: A 000 990 47 07 (Description: 14MX1.5X21)
In reality, both are thread length 27mm. (screw the MB parts system!!! )

If you don't mind and want to help, why not bust out your caliper tool and measure your oem lug bolt for me please?
I got a caliper tool, and I got almost 25mm diameter at the widest part of the ball seat. I'm speaking off my measurements on the oem lug bolt not some info givn by bolt sellers.
It's good to hear you have no problem using R14 bolts. I'm not a mechanic or engineer, I'm not going to say anything I'm not sure of or judge it. I did reseaches and if I say something that I got from the internet or heard from someone, I'd make sure it's a quote and provide the link if possible. If I provide some measurements, I'll try to be as clear and detailed as possble. As I wouldn't know what is correct and incorrect, I raise my questions and look for help, people can correct me with proof if I'm wrong. ***** happens, who knows? My ultimate goal is to find out the right ball seat radius, not just what ball seat radius is fine to use. Someday, I might drive my C63 at 280km/h like I stole it, I wouldn't want my wheels fly off because of the improper ball seat radius of the aftermarket wheel locks and bolts I'm looking to buy.

McGard DE?
I got 28018 kit for C-Class from that site...
Part number:28018
illustration similar for wheel type:alu
Type:Lockable wheel bolt
Thread size:M14x1,5
Seat:radius/sphere
Shaft length/total length:26,7 mm
Shaft diameter:
Hex size:17 mm
28018 kit is R13 ball seat.
McGard.com gave me 28174 kit for C-Class...
Wheel Locks/Nut Style - contains 4 locks and one key Part
Original Equipment Alloy Wheels 28174
Once again and quoting myself:
"Black bolt part #: A 000 990 83 07 (Description: 14MX1.5X30.7 Code 797)
Silver bolt part #: A 000 990 47 07 (Description: 14MX1.5X21)
In reality, both are thread length 27mm. (screw the MB parts system!!! ) "
Anyone happens to fly by the dealer in the near future?
Can anyone check if the Silver bolt part #: A 000 990 47 07 is what the Mercedes dealer would tell you it's the OEM lug bolt used on C-Class?
I really doubt it's R14 ball seat for C-Class OEM Wheels becasue I remember I checked the lug bolts on ML-Class and S-Class at the dealer and their ball seat looked much bigger than the C-Class and E-Class ones.

Just to clarify...
I bought both R14 and R13 bolts...
The factory lug bolt ball seat is actaully R14. The ball seat diameter may be in fact the wrong way to measure the ball size. I got diameter 24.8mm for R14 and 23.3mm for R13 lug bolts.

Just be sure to turn your rear wheels a few times by hand to make sure the lug bolts are not hitting the parking brake shoes/springs. The rear lugs will be protruding 3mm deeper into the parking brake housing and it will be close.

that tight huh? that's only 2 turns
wonder if H&R makes a 38 mm
I do want to keep the same bolts all around
