M156 variants for the C63 W204/S204

May I present something don’t understand re AMG and probably an techy question for fellow forumers / experts

As we all know, the M156 is the first AMG engine designed completely by Mercedes-AMG.

M156
all displaces 6,208 cc (6.208 L; 378.8 cu in), and
all are 102.2 mm (4.02 in) bore, and
all are 94.6 mm (3.72 in) stroke.

Putting aside all the previous / older variants like ML 63 / R 63 / CLK 63 and outgoing models,
but existing M156 outputs are still actually very different

C 63 457hp @ 6800 rpm / 600Nm @ 5000 rpm / 7200rpm max
Detuned M156
( as we all understand it would be embarrassing for the junior C 63 to smoke all its expensive brothers )

C 63 P30 487hp @ 6800 rpm / 600Nm @ 5000 rpm
Detuned, but add M159 forged pistons / conn roads / lightweight crankshaft / titanium grey intake
- Errr, would it be easier to just detune the M156 less… ….

C 63 DR 520 520hp
- Why not just put a standard M156 525hp in?
- some say this is actually Brabus tuned and MBUK sold it

C 63 Black Series coupe 517hp @ 6800 rpm / 620Nm @ 5000 rpm / 11.3:1 /
- Errr, 3 hp less than a DR 520, and another variant?
- why not just put a standard M156 525hp in?

reference
SL 63 525hp @ 6800 rpm / 630Nm @ 5200 rpm / 11.3:1 / 7200 rpm max
- Think what would happen if add M159 forged pistons / conn roads / lightweight crankshaft / titanium grey intake

Any chance you can share some insights
- What is the actual internal difference between M 156?

Interesting point, about to do some research on the C63 DR 520 as I've never heard of it before!

2008 C63 ,2009 SL 63 AMG, 2011 SLS AMG
How much power does the titanium grey intake and the forged pistons give?

I can't say on all the variants but in some cases the differences in engine output that are minor could be caused by the packaging of the motor in the car leading to slight variations due to intake or exhaust routing that change things slightly for that motor in that chassis.

I agree. I think that outside of the "de-tuned" base C63, most of the differences are due to differences in intake and exhaust plumbing.

Also, I am not sure that the rated output of the P31 C63 is accurate. It seems that from the factory they are actually closer to the 507-520 HP of the other M156 installations. I don't recall any dyno's of a stock P31 vs. stock non-P31, but it has been reported that they keep up with tuned (that is "un-de-tuned" to "un-de-tuned+") C63's.
