Let's keep this short and simple. It wasn't a rant, nor was I complaining.
The difference between you and me? I don't have to ask or talk my wife into buying a Black Series (your own words on AMG Private Lounge).
Looks like you're the ***-clown idiot, admitting being pu$$y whipped on a public forum.

And I didn't accuse you of ranting - I said I was ranting. My point is, if you take your taxes paid and divide by total income, you are not paying 46% or whatever you quoted as your rate.
And if being whipped is defined as discussing a ~$140,000 purchase with my wife, then I guess I am whipped. I don't mind.

Ahhh but this is a poll, not a survey. Its as basic as it gets. A survey is much more comprehensive forms that may include many types of questions and format types that are designed to extract information from the user in the most efficient way possible.

The poll you referenced is about opinions on reliability of polls, not reliability of polls. And it's not even useful for that because the answer choices are a mess and multiple answers can be selected, including contradictory answers.

Your distinction is useful, but a poll is really just a simple type of survey, in contrast with experiments, interviews, etc.

The point is the conclusions from this poll shouldn't be taken as fact. There are just far to many variables. The biggest being accountability of the people voting.

I'm not going to get into the trap that this thread is (although I did answer the poll).
What I will say is.. people who are rich (and stay rich throughout their entire lives).. regardless of salary, did not get their by pissing their money away on lots of toys, they are frugal. There are of course the exceptions, trust fund babies, people who have family money, etc. What I am talking about is the guy who started out with nothing and ended up rich.
Those who get rich quick and easy.. and own all those flashy cars, big houses.. huge parties, etc etc... read: sports stars, some musicians, etc, usually end up being broke by the end of their careers because they did not know how to handle the money that was handed to them without having to really work for it..
So, what does all that mean.. the type of car a person drives has less to do with money, and more to do with passion, at least with regards to those like me who had to stretch and save and fight for the cars we like and drive.

Being frugal is important here, especially in the earlier decade or two of working, because otherwise spending can easily get out of control. But I wouldn't want to be the miserly guy who deprives himself until age 60 to save some money, but then has no taste for spending it, and dies 5 or 10 years later anyway. A better option is to increase savings by increasing income, but the truth is that there are only a limited number of ways to make a relatively high income.
For me, it's a matter of balance. I don't waste money on things that don't add much value in my life, so I'm frugal in that sense, but I'm willing to spend money on things I really enjoy, like cars, provided that I'm not really stretching.
I agree that with performance cars, people generally get them because they're enthusiasts. But it's probably also true that the price of the performance car correlates with the owner's income and/or savings. The guys who drive Ferraris and Lambos aren't generally making $100K or have only $100K in the bank.
Addendum:
Regarding my last paragraph, I should add that if an enthusiast wants a performance car that doesn't attract attention, something relatively affordable like the C63 is a perfect fit, so in that case the cost of the car won't necessarily correlate with the owner's financial status. But I still suspect that most rich car enthusiasts who have a C63 will also have more expensive cars in the garage.

You also ignored the OP's and a few others question about your low tax rate. Talking about "a fan", why didn't you answer them, but instead just got back to me?
It seems to me, if you only pay 18% average tax on income (your figure), with all the money you're saving compared to what other people are paying in taxes, $140K is actually not that much to spend on a car.

Actually, I found this post via a Google search - quite interesting. Of course there is always room for error, but for a vehicle which is relatively pricey, it's interesting to see the income level of folks who have decided to make such a purchase.
For those of you who DO own a C63, what do you think is your annual maintenance costs of the vehicle (in US dollars)?

Now.. I know there will be some people out there who may say "if you're worried about maintenance costs..." Trust me, I can afford the C63 many times over - I just believe in educating myself first before I jump in

Exactly! I am a prospective C63 buyer and found this forum to be a wealth of information which is helping me base my decisions (among other sources). Also contacting local European car shops may prove helpful.
