I also find it very cool that manufacturers like AMG use sound engineers to get the car to sound just right.

I was reading about one of the sound engineers for Ferrari and he was asked if it bothered him that one of the head guys at Ferrari installed an aftermarket exhaust on his Ferrari. And the engineer succinctly answered: "yes."
